Workers at Tesla Inc TSLA are in contact with the United Auto Workers union.
According to a Reuters report, UAW President Dennis Williams said the union is indeed in contact with Tesla's employees in Silicon Valley but this doesn't mean Tesla's workers will form a union.
Williams said efforts to organize Tesla's workers to form a union will be "determined by the interest of employees." Moreover, he confirmed the union isn't paying a Tesla employee who publicly raised concerns about safety conditions at Tesla's factory.
In fact, Tesla's Fremont factory is the only auto assembly plant that's not represented by a union, but the union is ready to open Tesla's workers with "open arms."

This isn't the first time Tesla's name has been linked with the auto union. As noted by Electrek, Williams acknowledged in May of 2016 Tesla's status as a startup company is a valid reason for not having its employees unionized. However, given the automaker's upcoming ramp of its cheaper Model 3 sedan, Tesla could become one of the largest automakers in the country and certainly bigger than established players like BMW and Mercedes.
Tesla's stock traded recently at $272, which isn't too far from its all-time high.
