Comcast Prepared To Go After Latin Market Heavily (CMCSA)

Comcast CMCSA decreed that it's going to make a major push to capture more of the Hispanic audience, with a website designed solely for Spanish-speaking audiences.

The plan allows the company's digital subscribers to log into a site which will enable them to choose from more than 500 movies and shows from stations like Univision, Cine Mexicano, Gran Cine, Caracol TV, Discovery Familia.

Marcien Jenckes, general manager of Comcast Video Services, said this was a major investment, as the cable company seeks to tap into this growing market. "We're fully committed to the Hispanic market," he said in an interview. "This is almost a doubling down on top of a series of investments that have taken place over the years."

Along with the website, Comcast has raised the number of Hispanic television choices on its On Demand to approximately 700.

"Behind the scenes we've been working on a series on initiatives. We feel as though there is a now sufficient critical mass to launch," he said in an interview. "That 700 is on its way to 7,000 which is on its way to 70,000,"

Comcast has hired Sofia Vergara, star of the ABC comedy "Modern Family" to help promote the site in TV ads.
