Exploring Nintendo's 3-Day Switch Sale Figures Thus Far

Nintendo Co., Ltd (ADR) NTDOY’s new gaming console Switch set record sales in the United States in its first two days, according to a tweet from New York Times reporter Nick Wingfield.

“Fri-Sat sales for Nintendo Switch exceeded first 2-day sales in Americas for any system in Nintendo history. Next biggest was Wii,” Wingfield tweeted.

New Record

Wingfield cited Nintendo of America boss Reggie Fils-Aime who said Switch has beaten the U.S. record previously set by Wii. The record sales come despite Switch arriving earlier in the year in March versus Wii, which was launched in November.

Wingfield also tweeted that "Zelda" for Nintendo Switch was the best-selling standalone launch title (i.e., not a bundled game a la Wii Sports) in Nintendo history, beating Super Mario 64.

“Long term comparisons to Wii, which sold more than 100 m LTD, are tough. But good start for Switch, with big games coming,” Wingfield added.

Japan Numbers Out

In Japan, the Nintendo Switch has sold 313,000 units in its first 48 hours on sale, narrowly beating out the Wii U's 308,000 for the same period, according to a report on IGN.
