Over the years, the Berkshire Hathaway Inc. (NYSE: BRK-A) (NYSE: BRK-B) annual shareholder meeting has become quite an event for Berkshire investors and Warren Buffett fans. This year’s event takes place on Saturday in Buffett’s hometown of Omaha.
For Berkshire shareholders who may have arrived in Nebraska early, here are eight ways to spend your Friday in Omaha, according to TripAdvisor.
1. Henry Doorly Zoo
There may not be a bull exhibit, but the Durham Family Bear Canyon exhibit has polar bears, black bears, sun bears and spectacled bears. Hopefully, they all stay away from Berkshire’s stock.
2. Lauritzen Gardens
Omaha’s botanical gardens opened in 1982 and has added a new garden area each year since.
3. Joslyn Art Museum
The Joslyn Museum is the only museum in Nebraska with a comprehensive permanent collection, and it is known for its 19th- and 20th-century works by artists such as Pierre-Auguste Renoir and William-Adolphe Bouguereau.
4. Old Market
The neighborhood is a top tourist attraction because of its brick-paved streets, horse-drawn carriages, street performers, restaurants and upscale shopping.
5. Durham Museum
For coin collectors and fans of the American West, the Durham Museum is worth the visit. The museum is home to the coin collection of Byron Reed, who has been described as “one of the greatest collectors of the 19th century.”
6. Bob Kerrey Pedestrian Bridge
If you’re in the mood for some fresh air, take a walk across the Missouri River on the Bob Kerrey Pedestrian Bridge and take in the sights.
7. Omaha Children’s Museum
Children can enjoy permanent exhibits such as the Creative Arts Center, Artist-in-Residence Studio and the Charlie Campbell Science and Technology Center.
8. CenturyLink Center
Berkshire shareholders will certainly get an up-close and personal tour of the CenturyLink Center, which hosts the meeting on Saturday. On Friday, however, the CenturyLink Center is hosting Berkshire Hathaway Shareholder Shopping Day.
