The trading week started out in the green for mining companies Freeport McMoRan FCX, Southern Copper Corp SCCO, and Newmont Mining Corp NEM, but all started breaking down this afternoon with the downward move in copper.
Freeport FCX had been up nearly 2% at one point but quickly sold off, closing the trading day in negative territory down 0.86% to $54.08.
Newmont NEM hadn't been up nearly as much and took a slight cut, closing the trading day down 1.28% to $53.27.
The biggest loser in the group is Southern Copper SCCO, closing the trading day down 2.59% to $40.20.
The S&P SPY moved down sharply in the last fifteen minutes of the trading day, closing at $131.09.
