However, analysts were expecting earnings of $0.88 per share on revenue of $35.3 billion.
CVS Caremark Corp CVS reported its Q1 profit at to $713 million, or $0.52 per share, from $771 million, or $0.55 per share, in the year-earlier period. The company's adjusted earnings declined to $0.57 per share, from $0.60 per share. The company's revenue rose 9% to $25.9 billion. However, analysts were expecting earnings of $0.55 per share on revenue of $25.8 billion. CVS reiterated its 2011 forecast for adjusted profit from continuing operations of $2.72 to $2.82 per share.
Estee Lauder Companies Inc EL reported its FQ3 earnings at $124.7 million, or $0.62 per share, up from $57.5 million, or $0.28 per share, in the year-ago period. The company's net sales increased to $2.17 billion from $1.86 billion. However, analysts were expecting earnings of $0.57 per share on revenue of $2.04 billion.
Sara Lee Corp SLE swung to a profit in the fiscal third quarter. The company reported its quarterly earnings at $153 million, or $0.25 per share, versus a loss of $336 million, or $0.49 per share, in the year-ago period. The company's adjusted earnings from continuing operations came in at $0.24 per share. However, analysts were expecting earnings of $0.25 per share. The company's sales increased to $2.22 billion from $2.08 billion. Sara Lee lowered its full-year earnings forecast to a range of $0.79 to $0.83 per share, from $0.85 to $0.89 per share, versus analysts' estimates of $0.86 per share.
Lafarge SA LFRGY swung to a Q1 net loss from a year-ago profit. The company reported its quarterly loss at 29 million euros ($43.1 million), versus a net income of 64 million euros, in the year-ago quarter. The company's sales increased to 3.56 billion euros from 3.28 billion.
Lincoln Education LINC reported its quarterly EPS of $0.46, versus the estimates of $0.36. LINC reported its revenue of $145.4 million, versus the estimates of $143.82 million.
Societe Generale SA SCGLY reported a 14% drop in its first-quarter profit, due to rise in operating costs. The group's profit came in at 916 million euros ($1.36 billion), versus €1.06 billion, in the year-earlier period. The group's net banking income increased 0.6% to €6.62 billion. However, operating expenses surged 9.4% to €4.38 billion. The group's profit, excluding the accounting charge on its own debt, came in at €1.16 billion.
iGATE IGTE reported its quarterly EPS of $0.22, versus the estimates of $0.27. IGTE reported its revenue at $75.8 million, versus the estimates of $78.34 million.
Huntsman Corp HUN swung to a profit in the first-quarter. The company reported its Q1 net profit at $62 million, or $0.26 per share, versus a loss of $172 million, or $0.73 per share, in the year-ago period. The company's revenue surged 28% to $2.68 billion.
Cigna Corp CI reported a 52% surge in its first-quarter net income. The company reported its quarterly net income at $429 million, or $1.57 per share, versus $283 million, or $1.02 per share, in the year-ago quarter. The company's adjusted earnings from operations came in at $1.37 per share. The company's revenue increased to $5.41 billion from $5.21 billion. However, analysts were expecting earnings of $1.09 per share on revenue of $5.49 billion. Cigna projects full-year adjusted earnings from operations of $4.65 to $5 per share, versus analysts' estimates of $4.73 per share.
