However, analysts were expecting earnings of $1.76 per share. ConocoPhillips' revenue surged 17% to $62.39 billion.
Exelon Corp EXC reported a 16% rise in its fourth-quarter earnings. Exelon's quarterly profit surged to $606 million, or $0.91 per share, from $524 million, or $0.79 per share, in the year-ago period. Excluding some items, Exelon earned $0.82 per share. Its revenue declined 5.4% to $4.25 billion. However, analysts were expecting earnings of $0.88 per share on revenue of $4.8 billion.
Rockwell Automation Inc ROK reported a 22% surge in its fiscal first-quarter earnings. Rockwell Automation's quarterly profit rose to $183.3 million, or $1.27 per share, from $150.1 million, or $1.04 per share, in the year-ago period. Its revenue climbed 7.9% to $1.47 billion. However, analysts were expecting earnings of $1.21 per share on revenue of $1.51 billion.
Abbott Laboratories ABT reported a 12% rise in its fourth-quarter profit. Abbott Laboratories' quarterly profit surged to $1.62 billion, or $1.02 per share, from $1.44 billion, or $0.92 per share, in the year-earlier period. Its adjusted earnings came in at $1.45 per share. Its revenue gained 4% to $10.38 billion. However, analysts were expecting earnings of $1.44 per share on revenue of $10.59 billion.
Praxair Inc PX reported a strong rise in its fourth-quarter net income and raised the quarterly dividend by 10%. Praxair's quarterly earnings surged to $420 million, or $1.38 per share, from $133 million, or $0.43 per share, in the year-ago quarter. Shares outstanding dropped 2.3% to 303.7 million. Its sales rose to $2.8 billion from $2.62 billion. However, analysts were expecting a profit of $1.37 per share on sales of $2.84 billion.
General Dynamics Corp GD reported a drop in its fourth-quarter profit. General Dynamics' quarterly profit fell to $603 million, or $1.69 per share, from $729 million, or $1.94 per share, in the year-ago period. Its sales jumped to $9.15 billion from $8.60 billion. However, analysts were expecting a profit of $1.99 per share on sales of $9.31 billion.
United Technologies Corp UTX reported an 11% rise in its fourth-quarter net income. United Technologies' quarterly earnings surged to $1.33 billion, or $1.47 per share, from $1.2 billion, or $1.31 per share, in the year-ago quarter. Its adjusted net income came in at $1.46 per share. United Technologies' revenue rose to $14.97 billion from $14.86 billion. However, analysts were expecting a profit of $1.46 per share on revenue of $15.06 billion.
US Airways Group Inc LCC reported a drop in its fourth-quarter profit. US Airways' quarterly profit dropped to $18 million, or $0.11 per share, from $28 million, or $0.17 per share, in the year-earlier period. Its profit, excluding one-time costs, came in at $0.13 per share. US Airways' revenue rose 8.5% to $3.2 billion. However, analysts were expecting earnings of $0.02 per share on revenue of $3.15 billion.
Xerox Corp XRX reported a rise in its fourth quarter profit. Xerox's quarterly profit surged to $375 million, or $0.26 per share, from $171 million, or $0.12 per share, in the year-ago period. Its revenue fell to $5.96 billion, from $5.98 billion. However, analysts were expecting earnings of $0.33 per share on revenue of $6.07 billion.
Boeing Co BA reported a 20% rise in its Q4 net income. Boeing's quarterly earnings rose to $1.39 billion, or $1.84 per share, from $1.16 billion, or $1.56 per share, in the year-ago period. Its revenue surged to $19.56 billion from $16.55 billion. However, analysts were expecting a profit of $1 per share on revenue of $19.37 billion.
Textron Inc TXT swung to a fourth-quarter loss. Textron posted a quarterly net loss of $19 million, or $0.07 per share, versus a year-ago net income of $60 million, or $0.19 per share. The company's adjusted earnings came in at $0.49 per share. Textron's loss from continuing operations came in at $0.06 per share. Its revenue rose to $3.25 billion from $3.13 billion. However, analysts were expecting a profit of $0.34 per share on revenue of $3.27 billion.
Motorola Solutions Inc MSI reported a drop in its fourth-quarter profit. Motorola Solutions' quarterly profit declined to $184 million, or $0.56 per share, from $292 million, or $0.86 per share, in the year-earlier period. Excluding other items, Motorola Solutions' adjusted profit came in at $0.87 per share. Its sales climbed 5% to $2.3 billion. However, analysts were expecting earnings of $0.82 per share on revenue of $2.28 billion.
Corning Inc GLW reported a decline in its fourth-quarter earnings. Corning's quarterly earnings fell to $491 million, or $0.31 per share, from $811 million, or $0.51 per share, in the year-earlier period. Its revenue fell 9% to $1.9 billion from $2.1 billion. Corning's adjusted earnings came in at $0.33 per share. However, analysts were expecting earnings of $0.33 per share on revenue of $1.8 billion.
Dover Corp DOV reported a 40% rise in its fourth-quarter profit. Dover's quarterly profit surged to $278.3 million, or $1.49 per share, from $198.3 million, or $1.04 per share, in the year-ago period. Its earnings from continuing operations came in at $1.12 per share. Dover's revenue climbed 15% to $2 billion. However, analysts were expecting earnings from continuing operations of $1.03 per share on revenue of $2.03 billion.
St. Jude Medical Inc STJ reported a drop in its fourth-quarter profit. St. Jude Medical's quarterly profit fell to $163.4 million, or $0.51 per share, from $206.4 million, or $0.62 per share, in the year-ago period. Excluding one-time items, St. Jude Medical earned $0.86 per share. Its sales climbed to $1.41 billion, from $1.35 billion. However, analysts were expecting a profit of $0.84 per share on sales of $1.40 billion.
iGATE Corp IGTE reported a 3.8% rise in its fourth-quarter earnings. iGATE's quarterly profit rose to $15.3 million, from $14.7 million, in the year-ago period. On a per-share basis, the company's earnings dropped to $0.11 per share from $0.25 per share. Excluding other items, iGATE earned $0.27 per share. iGATE's revenue surged to $267.7 million. However, analysts were expecting earnings of $0.26 per share on revenue of $269 million.
Occidental Petroleum Corp OXY reported a rise in its fourth-quarter profit. Occidental Petroleum's quarterly profit surged to $1.6 billion, or $2.01 per share, from $1.2 billion, or $1.49 per share, in the year-earlier period. Its adjusted profit came in at $2.02 per share. Its sales surged to $6.03 billion from $5.06 billion. However, analysts were expecting earnings of $1.94 per share.
TE Connectivity Ltd TEL reported a 1.9% decline in its fiscal first-quarter earnings. TE Connectivity's quarterly profit fell to $260 million, from $265 million, in the year-ago period. WellPoint Inc WLP reported a 39% drop in its fourth-quarter earnings and lifted its dividend by 15%. WellPoint's quarterly profit fell to $335.3 million, or $0.96 per share, from $548.8 million, or $1.40 per share, in the year-ago period. Excluding other items, WellPoint earned $0.99 per share. Its revenue surged 5.5% to $15.18 billion. However, analysts were expecting earnings of $1.12 per share on revenue of $15.41 billion.
Hess Corp HES swung to a fourth-quarter loss on Wednesday. Hess Corp posted a quarterly loss of $131 million, or $0.39 per share, versus a year-ago profit of $58 million, or $0.18 per share. Its revenue climbed to $8.8 billion from $8.7 billion. However, analysts were expecting earnings of $1.30 per share on revenue of $8.5 billion.
Polaris Industries Inc PII reported a 17% surge in its fourth-quarter earnings. Polaris Industries' quarterly profit rose to $63.9 million, or $0.90 per share, from $54.5 million, or $0.78 per share, in the year-ago period. Its sales surged 26% to $782 million. Novartis AG NVS reported a 46% decline in its Q4 net profit. Novartis' quarterly net profit fell to $1.18 billion, from $2.17 billion, in the year-ago period, versus analysts' estimates of $1.76 billion. Its sales surged 4.1% to $14.78 billion, versus analysts' estimates of $14.63 billion.
Ericsson AB ERIC reported a 65% drop in its net attributable profit for the fourth quarter. Ericsson's quarterly profit fell to 1.49 billion Swedish kronor ($221 million), from SKR4.32 billion, in the year-ago period. Its net sales gained 1% to SKR63.67 billion from SKR62.78 billion.
Beiersdorf BDRFY reported upbeat 2011 core operating profit. Beiersdorf's 2011 earnings before interest, tax and special items dropped 7.6% to 646 million euros ($839 million), versus a forecast of 624 million. Beiersdorf's 2011 net profit declined 20% to 259 million euros.
