BHP May Boost Potash Bid By 10%

BHP Billiton BHP, the world's largest mining company, may increase its $38.6 billion hostile takeover bid for Potash Corp. of Saskatchewan POT by 10%, according to the Sunday Times, which cited unidentified sources. The paper said the revised offer will not be made public until after November 8 when court case regarding the fertilizer giant's use of a poison-pill plan is expected to be settled. Canada's trade minister is expected to give his approval to the deal by the November 3 deadline despite the fact that Saskatchewan's provincial government advised blocking the bid.
