BP Sticks Mitsui With $1.9B Tab

BP BP, Europe's second-largest oil company, has saddled Japan's Mitsui MITSY with a $1.9 billion bill for costs related to the cleanup of the Gulf of Mexico oil spill. Mistui held a 10% operating interest in the Macondo well project. Texas-based Anadarko Petroleum APC owned 25% and BP owned the remaining 65% and was the project's primary operator. Mitsui said it is witholding payment pending its own investigation of what caused the largest oil spill in U.S. history. Anadarko has also refused to pay BP due to perceived negligence.
