Costco Reports Higher-Than-Expected Rise In January Same-Store Sales

Costco Wholesale Corp COST reported upbeat rise in its January sales at stores open at least one year. COST January same-store sales increased 9%. Excluding the impact of gasoline price increase and fluctuation in exchange rates, COST same-store sales rose 6%. However, analysts were expecting same-store sales to increase 6.1%, and 5% excluding gasoline. The company's total sales for the four weeks ended January 30 increased 12% to $6.30 billion.
