Motorola Mobility Holdings MMI, the wireless spin-off of the company formerly known as Motorola, will acquire start-up 3LM Inc., Motorola Mobility's first acquisition since being separated from Motorola in January. The deal will help Motorola Mobility enhance the security of wirleless devices that run on the Androaid operating system.
3LM was founded by two former Google Inc. employees who worked on the team that developed Android, according to the Wall Street Journal. The deal is expected to be announced on Monday. Financial terms of the deal weren't disclosed, but sources speculated the deal could be worth be worth tens of millions of dollars.
3LM has already signed deals to provide its technology to several other device makers and those deals are expected to be announced soon, the Journal reported.
Motorola is betting the deal will help it increase its footprint in the business market, which has been apprehensive to embrace Android devices due to security concerns.
