Coal Miner Peabody's Profit Surges (BTU)

Peabody Energy BTU reported earnings per share of $0.69 cents, beating estimates by $0.05 cents, on sales of $1.66 billion, versus the consensus of $1.68 billion. Peabody raises its midpoint for fiscal year 2010 earnings per share to $2.60-$3.15, versus the consensus of $3.10. Revenue rose 24 percent to $1.66 billion, led by a $288.4 million increase in revenues from Australia. Shares are currently trading at $41.51, down 80 cents in pre-market trading.
