Actors have many talents and the best ones are versatile and able to play several roles and characters. An actor will be portraying former president Donald Trump on film, which comes after being best known as a superhero in the Marvel film franchise.

What Happened: Former President Donald Trump will be the subject of a new film called "The Apprentice,” which was also the name of his former business reality series.

Award-winning Iranian filmmaker Ali Abbasi is behind the movie, according to a report from Deadline. The movie will center on a young Trump in the 1970s and 1980s who was working to build his real estate business in New York.

"Billed as an exploration of power and ambition, set in a world of corruption and deceit," Deadline said.

Central characters in the movie include Trump, played by Sebastian Stan, ex-wife Ivana Trump played by Maria Bakalova and attorney Roy Cohn played by Jeremy Strong. The movie will also examine the mentor-student storyline of Cohn and Trump according to the report.

Strong is an Emmy and Golden Globe award winner. Bakalova was nominated for an Academy Award for her role in "Borat Subsequent Moviefilm."

Stan, who will play Trump, was nominated for an Emmy Award and Golden Globe Award for his portrayal of musician Tommy Lee in the Hulu limited series "Pam & Tommy."

The actor is best known for his role as Bucky Barnes/Winter Soldier in the Marvel film franchise. The actor has played the role across multiple Captain America and Avengers movies dating back to 2011 and in the Disney+ series "The Falcon and the Winter Soldier."

Stan also portrayed Robinhood Markets CEO and co-founder Vlad Tenev in the movie "Dumb Money," which was about the rising share price of video game retailer GameStop Corporation.

The production of the film commenced earlier this week, but no release date or studio partner was announced.

Director Abbasi’s latest movie "Holy Spider" was a 2022 Cannes Film Festival premiere and was Denmark's entry for the Best International Academy Award category, but was not officially nominated. The director also directed two episodes of the hit HBO series and video game adaptation "The Last of Us."

Why It's Important: The new Trump film comes as the former president is a front-running candidate for the 2024 presidential election.

Those who follow Trump know the former president will likely have an opinion on the person playing him and the film's subject matter, which will be interesting to see play out.

The timing of the release of the film could also be an important item to watch as it could be released before the 2024 election and shed light into the earlier years of Trump's life that people may not be as familiar with.
