Information technology (IT) has become a crucial component in all sectors of society and the economy.
With the internet becoming a part of daily life, digital literacy for everyone is more critical than ever.
Today, many basic services such as healthcare, education and banking are accessed through the internet. Still, 4 billion people do not have access to the internet, and some 2.9 billion of the world’s population suffers from the digital divide — the gap between people who have internet and computer access and those who do not.
The United Nations (U.N.) and the World Economic Forum are going full force to narrow this gap through digital inclusion. Digital inclusion gives people equitable access and use of information and communication technologies for participation in social and economic life.
To play a part in narrowing the digital gap, TDCX Inc. TDCX, a digital customer experience solutions provider for technology and blue-chip companies, has launched the TDCX Foundation.
TDCX Foundation — Bringing Information And Communication Technologies To Disadvantaged Communities
The main objective of the foundation is to bring positive transformation by empowering people, uplifting local communities and promoting environmental sustainability. The foundation enables TDCX to streamline its corporate social responsibility initiatives and to sharpen its focus on generating social impact for underserved communities, particularly in bridging the digital divide.
To foster digital inclusion, TDCX says the foundation will fund programs that provide people access to technology, connectivity and IT equipment as well as the skills they need to succeed in today's digital economy.
“We want to not only help our clients and employees reap the benefits of a digital world but play a part in connecting people from disadvantaged backgrounds to the opportunities that technology brings," TDCX Founder and CEO Laurent Junique said in a statement. "Through the TDCX Foundation, we will be able to go even further in giving back to the community.”
To begin with, TDCX is promising to offer three assistive programs in Malaysia, Thailand and the Philippines that would enhance students' access to digital learning resources. The foundation is working with the World Vision Foundation of Thailand to fund the purchase of computer equipment and educational software for a school library in Udon Thani Province.
In addition to the foundation, TDCX has a number of social initiatives under its corporate social responsibility arm, including Be Greener to help with climate change, Be Happier to nurture its people and Be Kinder to uplift local communities. More than 54,000 people have benefited from TDCX’s social initiative programs since the start of the year.
TDCX joins a list of notable companies that are working toward bridging the global divide, including Zoom Video Communications Inc. ZM, Adobe Inc. ADBE and Airbnb Inc. ABNB.
