The 2024 presidential election could see a rematch of the 2020 election, which saw Donald Trump and Joe Biden face off. Biden won the 2020 election, becoming the 46th president of the United States.
A new poll shows that Biden could win re-election based on the results if the general election were held today.
What Happened: A national poll of registered voters seeks to predict the 2024 election that has seen Biden, Trump and Ron DeSantis leading polls for several months.
The weekly Morning Consult poll sees Biden defeating both Trump and DeSantis in separate hypothetical matchups proposed to registered voters.
In a poll between Trump and Biden, the Democratic incumbent received 43% of the vote compared to 41% for Trump. Eleven percent said they would vote for someone else and 5% said they were unsure who they would select.
The results for the matchup between Biden and Trump are in line with last week’s report. The poll three weeks ago saw Trump take a brief 44% to 41% lead over Biden, his first since the poll began in December 2022.
In a hypothetical matchup between Biden and DeSantis, Biden came out on top, getting 44% of the vote versus the 39% for the Florida governor. Eleven percent of respondents said they would vote for someone else and 7% were unsure who they would vote for.
Biden regains a 5-point lead over DeSantis, which comes as the Florida governor saw his support in the Morning Consult GOP poll hit an all-time low since polling began in December 2022.
Biden is expected to become the Democratic party nominee for the 2024 election, where he would likely face one of the two current GOP frontrunners.

Why It’s Important: The 2020 election saw Biden defeat Trump with a 306 to 232 margin in the Electoral College. Biden also won the popular vote with 51.3% support compared to 46.9% for Trump.
Trump continues to dominate the GOP field in recent polls, with the latest Morning Consult poll showing a 59% to 16% lead over DeSantis. The former president has enjoyed a 30- to 40-point lead over his next closest rival for many months.
The latest national poll data suggests that Biden is the favorite to win the 2024 presidential election regardless of who he faces from the Republican Party.
One poll saw Trump pass Biden and DeSantis narrow the margin, but it appears to be a one-off until either can come close to passing the sitting president again.
In June, Biden saw his approval rating hit its highest level since August 2021.
