While hedge fund manager Bill Ackman has shown support for several existing and potential candidates running in the 2024 presidential election, he believes a change is needed ahead of the election.
Ackman on 2024 Election: Known best as the founder of Pershing Square Capital Management and the manager of Pershing Sq HLD, Bill Ackman is an influential voice in the financial world.
While Ackman has been busy commenting on bonds and treasury yields, he is also known for sharing his political takes on Twitter, now rebranded as X, and in interviews.
Even though Ackman has shown support for Robert Kennedy Jr. and Vivek Ramaswamy over the last year, the billionaire hedge fund manager said he is also hoping for another top financial name to run.
Ackman said that JPMorgan Chase JPM CEO Jamie Dimon is his top pick for the 2024 presidential election.
“I’d love Jamie Dimon to be president but he’s made it clear he’s not going to run. I’d love for a candidate of his quality to run,” Ackman said in a recent interview with the New York Post.
Ackman said that a potential rematch of the 2020 presidential election between Joe Biden and Donald Trump is “not the best option for America.
“It would be great for us to be brought together by a more centrist candidate that members of both parties can vote for,” he said.
Asked about his past support for Kennedy and Ramaswamy, Ackman said he supports Ramaswamy because he knows he’s “super smart and capable.” Ackman said he wishes Ramaswamy, whom he has previously given advice to on X, was more “centrist.”
“I still haven’t found my ideal candidate. Biden should step aside and that would create a flurry of alternative candidates,” he said.
The hedge fund manager also said some people have been afraid to run against the current president. If Biden moved aside, Ackman said he thinks more candidates would enter the race.
Why It’s Important: Based on current election polls, Trump and Biden have led their parties in garnering the most support.
Trump has skipped primary debates because he believes his competition is so far behind him.
Biden similarly has a sizable lead over Kennedy and Marianne Williamson, the only two big names running against him.
Since the current primary election system, no incumbent president has ever been defeated.
