Melania Trump Renegotiates Prenup With Donald Trump For Third Time: 'Agreement Was Necessary Because Of The Current Legal Battles'

Zinger Key Points
  • Donald Trump has been married to Melania Trump since 2005.
  • The couple has son Barron Trump together.

In November 2022, former president Donald Trump announced his campaign to run in the 2024 presidential election.

Since announcing a run to return to office, Trump has faced many legal setbacks and criminal charges, and seen his wife, Melania Trump, attempt to renegotiate the terms of their prenuptial agreement.

What Happened: Many have pointed to Melania being notably absent on the campaign trail.

Melania has also not been present at all of Trump’s legal proceedings.

A new report says that the former first lady quietly renegotiated her prenup with the former president, whom she has been married to since 2005.

The prenup was renegotiated as Trump looks to re-enter the White House and faces legal challenges, according to a report from The New York Post's Page Six.

“Over the last year, Melania and her team have been quietly negotiating a new ‘postnup’ agreement between herself and Donald Trump,” a source told Page Six.

According to the source, Melania has renegotiated the terms of the original prenuptial agreement thrice. The source made it known that the renegotiations are not due to a plan to leave the former president.

“Melania is most concerned about maintaining and increasing a substantial trust for their son Barron,” the source said.

“This agreement was necessary because of the current legal battles,” they added.

The new agreement is said to include an increased trust for Barron Trump, provide for Melania and span money and property.

A second source told Page Six that the new agreement came with more money for Melania and a minimum amount for Barron.

Why It’s Important: A prenup is made before marriage and drawn up to negotiate ownership of assets if a marriage fails.

The signing of a prenup does not indicate that the marriage will end in divorce, but the renegotiation by Melania could spark some rumors of that happening.

A 2020 book “The Art of Her Deal: The Untold Story of Melania Trump” by Washington Post author Mary Jordan noted that Melania renegotiated her prenup with the former president in 2017 at a time when she was also delaying her move from New York to the White House.

The book suggested that Melania felt that Barron would be treated the same as Trump’s older children when it came to Barron's inheritance.

Melania’s spokeswoman, however, said the book contained false information and sources.
