Vice President Kamala Harris is expected to be the frontrunner to win the Democratic Party nomination in the 2024 presidential election after President Joe Biden withdrew from the race on Sunday.
Here's a look at what polls suggest could happen if Harris faces off against former President Donald Trump.
What Happened: After pressure from the Democratic Party, Biden withdrew from the race and endorsed Harris as the potential replacement ahead of an August Democratic National Convention.
Many 2024 election polls have focused on a head-to-head matchup between Biden and Trump in the upcoming November presidential election. Some polls began looking at other potential Democratic candidates as calls for Biden to step down grew.

Why It's Important: The polls above mostly show Trump with a lead over Harris. Some of the polls, which may come from smaller, less well-known polling names, show a tie or win by the vice president.
Many of these polls happened prior to Biden dropping out or shortly after Biden withdrew from the race. Harris has not officially secured the presidential nomination from the Democratic Party, which could mean head-to-head polls change once an official nomination is announced for who will run against Trump.
In a recent Morning Consult poll, Harris trailed Trump by one percentage point, compared to a four-point lead Trump had over Biden. In the head-to-head poll, Harris ranked better than Biden against Trump among young voters (aged 18-34), Black voters and Hispanic voters.
A recent Emerson College poll showed Harris trailing Trump by six percentage points. While Trump had a larger lead over Harris than over Biden, the vice president received the largest amount of support in hypothetical head-to-head matchups against Trump with voters asked about several potential candidates including Gavin Newsom, Hillary Clinton, Gretchen Whitmer and Josh Shapiro.
