Vice President Kamala Harris has emerged as the favorite to win the Democratic Party nomination in the 2024 presidential election and is gaining endorsements from several notable political leaders including Rep. Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.), who may have helped convince President Joe Biden to exit the race.

What Happened: Harris has gained endorsements from many top Democratic leaders, including one from outgoing President Joe Biden.

On Monday, endorsements continued to come in for Harris as the vice president intends to win the Democratic Party's nomination ahead of the national convention in August.

Former Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi endorsed Harris on Monday, which comes after the congresswoman reportedly held talks with Biden about reconsidering dropping out of the race.

"With immense pride and limitless optimism for our country's future, I endorse Vice President Kamala Harris for President of the United States. I have full confidence that she will lead us to victory in November," Pelosi shared on social media.

Pelosi said she has known Harris for decades and witnessed her strong values, faith and commitment to public service.

"My enthusiastic support for Kamala Harris for President is official, personal and political."

The congresswoman said the Democratic Party has diversity as its strength and unity as its power.

"We must unify and charge forward to resoundingly defeat Donald Trump and enthusiastically elect Kamala Harris as the next President of the United States. Onward to victory!"

Why It's Important: Harris' campaign has been busy since Biden announced he was withdrawing from the election. A Reuters report said campaign officials made hundreds of calls to delegates to nominate her for president.

"My intention is to earn and win this nomination," Harris said in a statement. "I will do everything in my power to unite the Democratic Party — and unite our nation — to defeat Donald Trump."

On Monday, speaking publicly for the first time since Biden dropped out of the race, Harris used the opportunity to praise her current boss, as reported by NPR.

"Joe Biden's legacy of accomplishment in the past three years is unmatched in modern history," Harris said Monday. "In one term, he has already surpassed the legacy of most presidents who have served two terms in office."

Harris said Biden fights for American people and we are "deeply grateful for his service to our nation."

Biden's campaign ended June with $95 million, a figure that could be transitioned to Harris' campaign according to political experts with the vice president a member of the official re-election campaign.

Harris' team also brought in $46.7 million in small-dollar donations in the first five hours after Biden departed the election according to ActBlue.

Strong support for Harris could lead to a quick nomination process for the Biden replacement and avoid a divided party or an open convention.
