Donald Trump, Elon Musk Set For Monday Interview: Will The Talk Be On X Or Truth Social?

Zinger Key Points
  • Donald Trump and Elon Musk will take part in an interview Monday, Aug. 12.
  • A look at where the interview could take place and what topics could be covered.

Former President Donald Trump and billionaire Elon Musk will be featured in an interview on Monday, Aug. 12, less than three months ahead of the 2024 presidential election.

What Happened: While Trump and Kamala Harris can't agree on which media network should host their first presidential debate, the former president continues to participate in interviews with YouTubers and content creators with large followings.

Trump has done recent interviews with Logan Paul and Adin Ross that could appeal to young voters ahead of the 2024 election.

The former president is now ready to speak with Tesla CEO Elon Musk, according to a Tuesday social media post.

"On Monday night I'll be doing a major interview with Elon Musk – Details to follow!" Trump posted in all caps on his Truth Social account Tuesday.

Musk has not confirmed the interview and no further details are known.

Among the biggest questions will be who will be the interviewer and who will be the interviewee, or if a third person will be involved and where the interview will take place.

Social media platform X, formerly Twitter, which is owned by Musk, could be a logical place to host the interview in a Spaces featuring the two and any other speakers. Spaces has hosted interviews with other candidates during the 2024 election cycle, often times including Musk in the conversation.

Trump was unbanned from X when Musk bought the platform. Since being unbanned, Trump has posted on X only once with an image of his mug shot and a call for donations. Trump has 87.9 million followers on X, while Musk’s is the most-followed account with 193 million followers.

Another potential platform for the interview is Truth Social, whicih is owned by Trump and part of Trump Media & Technology Group DJT. The company recently rolled out its streaming platform Truth+ and the interview could be one of the biggest ways to test and publicize the platform.

"First, we created Truth Social to provide a safe harbor for free speech on the internet. Now, we're establishing a reliable home for great TV content that is neglected by the big corporations or is at risk of cancellation," TMTG CEO Devin Nunes said.

If Truth Social hosts the interview, there’s a risk the platform could crash or have technical difficulties given the likely massive audience. Trump has 7.5 million followers on Truth Social.

Musk has been critical of Truth Social in the past, which could also prevent the platform being the home of the interview.

Did You Know?

Why It's Important: The interview between Trump and Ross on Kick saw around 500,000 live viewers and according to Trump has over 100 million views/hits.

"Adin Ross Interview yesterday EXPLODED, but in a very positive way! Platform set an all time record, by far," Trump said on Truth Social.

Trump credited his youngest son Barron Trump for the introduction to Ross in his post.

"Young people are the future of America."

Trump and Musk have had a friendly relationship in recent months, with the former president praising the billionaire and Tesla while also talking negatively of the electric vehicle sector.

Musk has endorsed Trump for president and backed a pro-Trump PAC that is now under investigation.

The interview could cover key topics like cryptocurrency, free speech, immigration and foreign relations. Musk could eye an advisor role if Trump returns to the White House.

DJT Price Action: Trump Media & Technology shares are up 1% to $27.13 on Tuesday versus a 52-week trading range of $22.55 to $79.38.
