  • A look at how many followers Trump has gained on X and why it could be a difficult decision to post on the platform more.

Donald Trump won the 2024 presidential election and will likely receive increased attention from the media and investors around the world after Election Day.

Here's a look at how Trump's win led to more followers on social media and why it's important.

What Happened: Donald Trump's 2024 election win has led to an influx in his followers on social media platform X, which is owned by Elon Musk, a billionaire who backed his election bid.

According to Socialblade, Trump had 92,287,553 followers on X on Nov. 4, ahead of the 2024 presidential election. On Election Day and after Trump's victory, the president-elect’s follower count rose significantly.

Here are the number of followers gained by day:

  • Tuesday, Nov. 5: +288,545
  • Wednesday, Nov. 6: +790,193
  • Thursday, Nov. 7: +239,141
  • Friday, Nov. 8: +154,500
  • Saturday, Nov. 9: +104,896
  • Sunday, Nov. 10: +160,240
  • Monday, Nov. 11: +79,340 (as of the time of writing Monday)

Trump has gained 1,816,855 followers since the day before the election and now has 94,104,408 followers. The president-elect currently ranks as the ninth most followed account on the Musk-owned platform.

For comparison, Musk ranks first and has 202.1 million followers.

Over the last 30 days, Trump has gained 2.44 million followers with an average daily gain of 81,279. The results above show that Trump gained the majority of his new followers in the last week, and his average daily gain is growing after the election.

For comparison, Musk gained 3.02 million followers over the last 30 days and has averaged a gain of around 100,000 new followers per day.

Did You Know?

Why It's Important: Trump's strong following on X could become a storyline to watch as the president-elect is also the co-founder of Trump Media & Technology Group DJT, which owns the Truth Social platform.

Shares of Trump Media & Technology Group were highly volatile ahead of the 2024 election and have soared in value over the last month.

Trump often uses his Truth Social account to communicate with his followers despite having a smaller 8.12 million following on the platform. Trump was previously banned from X and other social media platforms before Musk acquired the company.

Trump Media & Technology Group recently highlighted the importance of Trump for the company’s success.

“TMTG’s success depends in part on the popularity of our brand and the reputation and popularity of President Donald J. Trump. The value of TMTG’s brand may diminish if the popularity of President Donald J. Trump were to suffer,” the company said.

The filing said Trump is able to post politically related content on any social media site at any time, including outside of Truth Social.

The filing lists Feb. 2, 2025, as the date when Trump may “terminate the Exclusivity Obligation” with 30 days prior written notice for his non-political posts to appear first on Truth Social.

Trump posted on X 29 times on Election Day, according to Social Blade. Since the election win, Trump took several days off from using X and has only posted five times since Tuesday.

Compare that to Truth Social, where Trump has been much more active, including sharing several future Cabinet nominations for his presidency in 2025.

Trump's requirement to post first on Truth Social may have been evident on Monday, with a Veterans Day post made first on the Trump Media & Technology Group-owned platform before making the same post on X two hours later.

With Trump having a larger following on X, he could reach more people if he chooses to end the exclusivity pact with Truth Social. As the largest shareholder in the company with 114,750,000 shares, Trump can continue to benefit from people needing to see his posts made on Truth Social.

Trump's usage of the various social media platforms will be closely watched in the future, especially if he continues to gain a high amount of followers on X. Trump is nearing eighth place among the most followed X accounts, which currently belongs to Taylor Swift with 95.2 million.

With Swift endorsing Kamala Harris in the 2024 presidential election, Trump would likely love to pass the musician on X for follower count.

DJT Price Action: Trump Media & Technology Group shares were up 5% to $33.41 on Monday, versus a 52-week trading range of $22.55 to $79.38.
