Asia Mostly In Red, European Markets Gain, While Gold Advanced - Global Markets Today While US Slept

On Tuesday, July 9th, U.S. stock markets closed mixed, with the S&P 500 and Nasdaq hitting record highs. The gains were driven by Nvidia’s 2.5% rise following Fed Chair Jerome Powell’s comments that positive economic data could lead to rate cuts.

NVIDIA NVDA shares rose by 2.5% after Keybanc analyst John Vinh reiterated an Overweight rating and raised the price target from $130 to $180.

The majority of S&P 500 sectors closed higher, led by financials, health care, and utilities, while energy and materials stocks ended lower.

The Dow Jones Industrial Average was down 0.13% and closed at 39,291.97. The S&P 500 gained 0.07%, ending the day at 5,576.98, and the Nasdaq Composite rose 0.15%, finishing the session at 18,430.56.

  • On Wednesday, Japan’s Nikkei 225 gained 0.50%, ending the session at 41,857.50, led by gains in the Electrical/Machinery, Precision Instruments, and Communication sectors.
  • Australia’s S&P/ASX 200 closed lower at 0.16%, ending the day at 7,816.80, led by losses in the Materials, Metals & Mining, and Utilities sectors.
  • India’s Nifty 50 closed lower by 0.45% at 24,324.45, and Nifty 500 slid 0.39 to 22,977.65.
  • China’s Shanghai Composite was down 0.69%, ending the session at 2,939.36, and the Shenzhen CSI slid 0.32%, closing at 3,428.97.
  • Hong Kong’s Hang Seng ended the session lower by 0.29% at 17,471.67.

Eurozone at 06:15 AM ET

  • The European STOXX 50 index gained 0.82%.
  • Germany’s DAX rose 0.85%.
  • France’s CAC was up 0.89%.
  • U.K.’s FTSE 100 traded higher by 0.59%.

Crude Oil WTI was trading higher by 0.21% at $81.57/bbl, and Brent was up 0.08% at $84.73 bbl.

Natural Gas gained 1.45% to $2.378.

Gold was trading higher by 0.51% at $2,379.95, Silver gained 0.59% to $31.242, and Copper slid 0.15% to $4.5705.

Dow futures were up 0.02%, S&P 500 futures rose 0.14%, and Nasdaq 100 Futures gained 0.26%.

The U.S. dollar index declined 0.01% to 105.12, the USD/JPY rose 0.15% to 161.56, and the USD/AUD rose 0.03% to 1.4836.
