Two Sony Plants Shut Down After Earthquake Cuts Power (SNE)

Sony SNE said on Friday that two of its Japanese plants were shut down after Thursday's earthquake cut the power. Numerous manufacturers, including Sony and Apple AAPL, have had to adjust supply chain models to accomodate the devastating earthquakes in Japan. According to a Reuters report, "The Miyagi prefecture plants, which make optical devices and IC cards, had resumed partial production at the end of last month after being halted by the March 11 earthquake and tsunami. Sony said production had resumed at a semiconductor laser factory also in the northern prefecture of Miyagi, after being suspended briefly for inspections." Thursday's quake was registered at 7.4 magnitude, with 2 confirmed deaths. Sony Corporation (Sony) is engaged in the development, design, manufacture, and sale of various kinds of electronic equipment, instruments, and devices for consumer, professional and industrial markets, as well as game consoles and software. Shares closed lower by $0.23 on Thursday, to $30.33.
