A recent poll asked Americans who they would vote for in a hypothetical matchup of two Republican candidates likely to run for U.S. President in the 2024 election.

Turns out, Florida Governor Ron DeSantis leads former President Donald Trump by a wide margin.

The poll, which comes about a month after Trump officially announced he was running for president in the 2024 election, shows that voters would favor DeSantis 52% to 38%.

Around 9% of GOP voters were undecided in another poll from the Wall Street Journal.

Republican voters also give DeSantis an 86% favorable rating compared with 74% for Trump, poll data shows.

For all registered voters, those polled gave DeSantis a 43% favorable rating and Trump a 36% favorable rating. This marks the lowest rating for Trump from overall voters dating back to November 2021.

Responders who consider themselves conservative favor Trump 54% to 38% — the one category that saw the former president favored.

The poll also conducted a potential rematch from the 2020 presidential election with a matchup between Trump against President Joe Biden. Of those polled, Biden got 45% of the vote, while 43% went to Trump. Some 12% were undecided.
