Trump Continues To Lead, DeSantis Hits Lowest Mark In Republican Poll: But It's This Other Candidate Who Continues To Climb The GOP Ranks

Zinger Key Points
  • Vivek Ramaswamy continues to gain support among Republican voters in a leading poll.
  • Ron DeSantis sees a record low for support among Republican voters.

A new election poll among Republican voters shows former President Donald Trump continuing his commanding lead for GOP support ahead of the 2024 election.

What Happened: The 2024 election is widely seen as a three-person race between Trump, current President Joe Biden and Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis. Betting odds have favored these three candidates for months.

A new election poll shows DeSantis facing more pressure as he sees support fall and a third candidate continues to gain support and rise up the ranks.

The latest weekly Morning Consult poll shows Trump with a 39-point lead over DeSantis, up one point from the last poll.

Here is the latest look at who Republican voters favor for the 2024 election according to Morning Consult, with its previous poll result in parenthesis.
Donald Trump: 56% (57%)
Ron DeSantis: 17% (19%)
Vivek Ramaswamy: 8% (6%)
Mike Pence: 7% (7%)
Nikki Haley: 3% (3%)
Tim Scott: 3% (3%)
Chris Christie: 3% (2%)
Asa Hutchinson: 1% (1%)

The latest poll sees Trump posting another decline among Republican voters, dropping one point from the last poll and now down 3% over the course of the last two polls from Morning Consult.

DeSantis has only 17% of support in the poll, which is an all-time low in the poll since tracking began in December 2022.

Entrepreneur and GOP candidate Ramaswamy gets another bump for a second straight poll. Ramaswamy jumps from 6% to 8% of support and passes former Vice President Pence.

Voters who support Trump as their favorite list DeSantis as their next favorite candidate at 39%, with Ramaswamy at 16% and Pence at 14%. The prior poll saw DeSantis at 42%, Pence at 14% and Ramaswamy at 13%.

Voters who support DeSantis as their favorite list Trump as their next favorite candidate at 42%, with Ramaswamy at 16% and Pence at 15%.

Why It’s Important: Trump continues to dominate the polls with a commanding 39-point lead over the next top GOP candidate.

Support for DeSantis has fallen in the Morning Consult poll, hitting new lows.

The winner for a second straight poll appears to be Ramaswamy who now boasts 8% of support and a third place ranking. Support for Ramaswamy as a second candidate to Trump and DeSantis also grew in the latest poll.

Ramaswamy has also ranked well among those polled when asked if they have heard something positive or negative about a candidate. Ramaswamy ranked second for positive things heard at 38%, trailing only Trump at 39%.

Only 9% say they have heard something negative recently about Ramaswamy, compared to 37% for Trump and 24% for DeSantis.

A poll among registered Texas voters who were Republican or Independent showed Trump having a commanding lead of 51% to 19% for DeSantis. The poll showed Ramaswamy having only 2% of support, ranking behind seven GOP candidates.

With the Morning Consult poll asking only GOP voters and the Texas poll including both Republicans and Independents, it could suggest Ramaswamy still has ground to make with undecided nonpartisan voters. The poll could also show Ramaswamy doesn’t track well in Texas, a leading GOP state.

Betting odds list Ramaswamy as an underdog to win the 2024 election at +6600, but his odds have also improved in recent months going from unranked to +10,000 to +8,000 to his current odds, suggesting momentum gained among polls and bettors.
