iPhone 15 Pro To Be 10% Lighter Than The 14 Pro Despite Similar Size, Thanks To This Upgrade

The soon-to-be-launched Apple Inc’s AAPL iPhone 15 Pro models are set to be considerably lighter due to a change in materials used, while the base model iPhone 15 will retain similar dimensions and weight to its forerunner.

What Happened: MacRumors obtained the specific dimensions and weights of the iPhone 15 range on Friday. The iPhone 15 Pro is forecasted to be up to 10% lighter than the iPhone 14 Pro, largely due to the replacement of the previously used stainless steel with a new Grade 5 titanium midframe.

The standard iPhone 15 is expected to sport the same dimensions and weight as the iPhone 14, with no significant alterations in materials or structure. The iPhone 15 Plus is also predicted to closely resemble its predecessor in terms of size and weight.

Despite the reduction in weight, the iPhone 15 Pro is likely to have a slightly thicker form factor than the iPhone 14 Pro. However, this increase in thickness might be compensated by a smaller bezel size, thanks to the incorporation of LIPO technology in the display.

The iPhone 15 Pro Max is also predicted to be lighter, by 19 grams, than the iPhone 14 Pro Max. The weight difference is ascribed to the change in materials, rather than any significant structural changes or design differences.

The data provided by MacRumors is based on pre-production units and may not be an exact reflection of the final mass production units. However, it does provide valuable insights into what to expect from the iPhone 15 series.

Why It Matters: The anticipated changes in the iPhone 15 Pro models come in the wake of reports suggesting a significant price hike for the new devices. The iPhone 15 Pro and Pro Max models are expected to cost at least $100 more than the current models.

The iPhone 15 series is set to hit store shelves globally this month, with India likely to receive the new models simultaneously with the rest of the world.

In the run-up to the launch, analysts from Morgan Stanley and Wedbush have shared their expectations, predicting limited upgrades for the iPhone 15 and 15 Plus models but substantial changes for the Pro models.

However, the launch week has not been without challenges for Apple Inc. AAPL, which saw its value drop by $190B in just two days due to competition threats and a limited ban in China, as reported by Benzinga.
