President Biden Worries He Might Not Live To See Hunter's Legal Woes Play Out, Should Voters Be Concerned?

Zinger Key Points
  • Age has been a major issue ahead of the 2024 election with the two leading candidates among the oldest presidential candidates ever.
  • Sources say Joe Biden could be worried about his age and focus on the 2024 election after charges for his son Hunter Biden.

The son of President Joe Biden has been indicted and faces federal charges over a weapon bought in 2018.

While the legal battle could take years to see if the younger Biden will serve time behind bars, the president had some interesting comments about the upcoming timeline.

What Happened: Hunter Biden faces two charges related to false statements when purchasing a gun and a third charge related to possessing the weapon, which carry punishments of up to 10 years in prison and up to five years in prison respectively.

Hunter Biden sued the IRS due to the release of his private tax documents as he awaits potential additional charges over tax payments related to his business dealings.

A source close to the Biden family said the president is worried he might be dead before the legal proceedings play out, according to NBC News.

Supporters of Biden are also worried the president may lose focus on the 2024 presidential election.

Why It’s Important: The comments by Biden about his age and not being around to see Hunter’s case play out may not win over skeptics who think is too old to run for president.

At the age of 80, Biden is currently the U.S. oldest president. If Biden was to win the 2024 presidential election he would be 86 years old if he finishes his second term.

Some might question how Biden is worried about being dead before Hunter’s legal proceedings play out, but not worried about fulfilling his full term in office if he wins the 2024 election.

Age has been a big focus of the 2024 election with the 80-year-old Biden likely facing off against former president Donald Trump, who is 77 years old. Trump ended his presidency at 74 as the second oldest president at the time, trailing only Ronald Regan who was 77 when he left office.

Allies of Biden are concerned about the impact the new charges against Hunter could have on the president.

Biden said previously that the death of his son Beau Biden in 2015 was a deciding factor for his choosing not to run for president in the 2016 election.

“No man or woman should announce for president of the United States unless they can look the public in the eye and say, ‘I promise you I am giving 100% of my attention and dedication to this effort,’” Biden said in a 2017 speech.

Biden previously said he would not run for a second term, but confirmed his re-election efforts earlier this year.

Some are concerned that the new charges against Hunter and potentially more coming, including some trying to connect the president to the business dealings, could shift focus from the election.

“There’s a doubt in my mind that it’s a huge, huge concern for the president — as it would be for any parent. Especially a parent who lost a child too early in life,” U.S. Rep Steny Hoyer (D-Md.) said.

Hoyer spent time with Biden before the indictment was announced.

While many opponents of both Biden and Trump have taken shots at their age, the latest comments reported could be a concern for voters who expect Biden to be around to finish a second term.
