Going against current predictions, Apple Inc. AAPL is now expected to launch its inaugural M3 MacBooks in 2024 instead of later this year.
What Happened: The upcoming M3-powered MacBooks, built on Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company’s (TSMC) 3nm fabrication process, are slated for release in 2024 instead of this year, as suggested by some speculations, reported DigiTimes.
According to the report, Apple’s delayed transition to TSMC’s 3nm-based CPUs will cause a considerable drop in shipments in 2023.
Global notebook shipments are projected to see a 4.7% increase in 2024, driven by the easing of inflation and the debut of new products, including the M3 MacBooks powered by 3nm-based chips.

Previously, Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman anticipated an October 2023 unveiling for the first Macs featuring the M3 chip. However, recent inputs from Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo confirm that Apple won’t introduce new MacBook models with M3 series chips before year’s end.
The yet-to-be-announced M3 chip, fabricated with TSMC’s 3nm process, is predicted to offer enhanced performance and power efficiency compared to the current 5nm-based M2 chip.
Why It Matters: The year 2024 is expected to see a 4.7% growth, marking the end of a two-year decline, driven by the easing of inflation and the introduction of new products.
This prediction also indicates a new phase of expansion in the economy by 2025, leading to an expected 6% growth in overall shipments, making it the year with the highest growth rate over the subsequent five years.
