Come 2024, the Apple Watch is expected to get various health-related features, including the capability to detect hypertension and sleep apnea.
What Happened: Apple Inc. AAPL is broadening its focus in the healthcare sector with these feature additions. The 2024 Apple Watch will be equipped with a novel sensor to identify elevated blood pressure levels, reported Bloomberg.

However, initial models might not offer precise systolic and diastolic measurements. A complimentary blood pressure journal will assist users in recording instances when hypertension was observed.
Apple is also developing a system to detect sleep apnea. This system will keep track of a user’s sleep and breathing patterns to determine the likelihood of sleep apnea. If the condition is suspected, an app will suggest a medical consultation.
Apple is allegedly working on an upgraded watch design to accommodate these new functionalities. Other health-oriented features, like transforming AirPods into over-the-counter hearing aids, are also on the agenda. Furthermore, Apple is creating a paid, digital health coaching service that leverages AI and user data to generate customized workout and meal plans.
Why It Matters: Apple’s increasing focus on health-related features reflects the tech company’s strategy to position its products as essential wellness tools. By detecting conditions like hypertension and sleep apnea, the Apple Watch could potentially become a proactive health monitor, alerting users to potential health risks before they become critical.
The introduction of a digital health coaching service further underscores Apple’s commitment to promoting healthier lifestyles among its user base.
