Want Elon Musk's Neuralink Chip In Your Brain? Here Are The Conditions For Taking Part In The Human Trials

Elon Musk’s brain chip startup Neuralink has laid out specific criteria for those interested in participating in its human trials.

What Happened: Eligibility for the trials is not universal. Candidates must be 18 or older and have conditions such as quadriplegia, paraplegia, visual or hearing impairment, aphasia, or major limb amputation, reported Business Insider.

Those who meet the requirements can apply through Neuralink’s Patient Registry Application on the company’s website. The process requires initial screening questions to ensure eligibility.

Applicants must then complete a consent form allowing the sharing of their medical records. This includes primary care provider information, head CT and MRI scans, HIV test results, any drug or alcohol abuse treatment records, and genetic testing information.

The application also includes a questionnaire that takes approximately 45 to 60 minutes to complete. Selected applicants will be contacted by Neuralink or an associated third party.

Why It Matters: Neuralink initiated its first human trial recruitment less than two months ago, and there have been thousands of individuals expressing interest in receiving one of the company’s brain implants.

The trial is expected to run for about six years, with several follow-up visits to monitor device function. Participants are asked to partake in at least two hour-long research sessions per week, as per Neuralink’s brochure.
