Jamie Raskin Slams GOP's Biden Family Subpoenas As A Trump-Driven 'Sham' Impeachment Plot

Rep. Jamie Raskin (D-Md.) criticized the House Oversight Committee’s GOP leaders for subpoenaing President Joe Biden‘s family members.

The committee summoned Hunter Biden, James Biden, Sarah Biden, Melissa Cohen, Hallie Biden, and Elizabeth Secundy, reported The Hill.

“These subpoenas and interview requests are yet further proof that this sham impeachment inquiry is driven only by the demands of the vengeful and prevaricating Donald Trump,” Raskin, the Oversight Committee’s ranking member, stated.

The subpoenas coincide with an ongoing impeachment inquiry against President Biden. New House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-La.) and Oversight Chair James Comer (R-Ky.), both Republicans, have championed these efforts.

Why It Matters: Raskin has accused Chairman Comer of attempting to “jump-start this epic flop of an investigation” by issuing numerous subpoenas and interview requests to private citizens.

Previously, Raskin served as an impeachment manager during President Donald Trump’s second impeachment following the Jan. 6 Capitol attack. Trump has publicly urged House Republicans to impeach his successor, hinting that it could be a retaliatory move for his own impeachment.

“Today Chairman Comer demonstrates that the Republican Party is still listening to Trump and is definitely not listening to America,” Raskin concluded.
