The Kremlin has expressed confidence that Russian President Vladimir Putin will come out victorious in the 2024 presidential election if he decides to stand for another term in office.
Dmitry Peskov, the Kremlin’s press secretary, stated there had been no official announcement regarding Putin’s decision to run for another term, but he strongly believes Putin will confidently win the election scheduled for March, reported CNBC.
“There has been no formal announcement yet. But I have no doubt that if he puts forward his candidacy, he will win confidently,” Peskov said.

Independent polls by the Levada Center demonstrate that Putin’s approval rating has remained strong, hovering around the 80% mark since Russia’s invasion of Ukraine in February 2022.
Why It Matters: Putin first assumed power in 2000 and has since remained a significant figure in Russia’s political landscape. His presidency has been marked by the suppression of opposition parties, with many critics and opponents facing harassment, imprisonment, or exile. Some critics have even died under suspicious circumstances, in which the Kremlin denies any involvement.
Analysts suggest that any potential change in Russia’s political system or leadership would require a significant internal shift within Russia’s elite or a major geopolitical or economic mishap. Currently, there appear to be no contenders capable of opposing Putin.
Despite international sanctions and increased economic isolation due to the war, Russia maintains that its economy has remained resilient, with countries like China and India continuing to conduct business with it.
