Edward Snowden Takes A Dig At Elon Musk: Tells Billionaire 'There Are More Than Two' Presidential Candidates

Edward Snowden, on Wednesday, took a subtle jab at Elon Musk after the Tesla Inc CEO announced that he would not be financially supporting “either” of the U.S. presidential candidates, seemingly referring to Donald Trump and Joe Biden.

What Happened: Musk, in a post, said “Just to be super clear, I am not donating money to either candidate for US President.”

Snowden, a former U.S. intelligence agent turned whistleblower, responded to Musk’s comment, pointing out that there are more than two candidates. “There are more than two.”

Snowden’s retort hinted at the existence of independent presidential candidates, apart from the mainstream Republican nominee Trump and Democratic nominee Biden. Notable independent candidates in the 2024 race include Robert F. Kennedy Jr., Cornel West, and Jill Stein.

Musk’s decision not to financially support any presidential candidate comes after his meeting with Trump in Palm Beach, Florida. During the meeting, Trump was actively seeking new donors for his campaign.

Earlier on Wednesday, Nikki Haley ended her challenge to Trump, ensuring that he would be the Republican Party's candidate in the November election. Similarly, Dean Philip also ended his challenge to Joe Biden, ensuring that he would be the Democratic Party's candidate in the November election.

Why It Matters: This is not the first time Snowden has made headlines for his comments on political matters. Last year, he criticized former President Trump, President Biden, and former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton for mishandling classified documents. Snowden questioned the need for a system that punishes ordinary workers for similar offenses while excusing the same “crimes” if done by elites.

Last month, Snowden expressed concern over reports that President Biden skipped a cognitive assessment during his annual physical. Snowden suggested that Biden's decision is worrying, irrespective of one's political affiliation. "White House medical staff has always, historically speaking, been all-too-happy to lie in order to play down or conceal Presidential maladies," he said.

In 2023, Snowden also took a public stance against Musk-owned Twitter's limitations on the access of tweets for unregistered users. He touted an open-source alternative and encouraged netizens to check out Jack Dorsey-backed decentralized social platform Nostr since “somebody broke Twitter.”
