Agilent Technologies Inc A reported an 85% surge in its second-quarter profit.
The company's quarterly profit increased to $200 million, or $0.56 per share, from $108 million, or $0.31 per share, in the year-earlier period. Excluding one-time items, the company's adjusted profit came in at $0.74 per share. Its revenue surged 32% to $1.68 billion. However, analysts were expecting earnings of $0.65 per share on revenue of $1.61 billion.
Agilent also lifted its 2011 adjusted profit projections to $2.84 to $2.88 per share, versus analysts' estimates of $2.65 per share.
Shares of Agilent jumped 5.78% to $53.24 in pre-market trading.
