Dish Network Corp DISH reported a 30% rise in its second-quarter profit. Dish Network's quarterly profit surged to $335 million, or $0.75 per share, from $257 million, or $0.57 per share, in the year-ago period. Its revenue climbed 13% to $3.59 billion. However, analysts were expecting earnings of $0.79 per share on revenue of $3.38 billion. Dish Network reported that net subscribers dropped 135,000 to 14.056 million during the quarter.
Beazer Homes USA Inc BZH reported wider-than-expected fiscal third-quarter loss. Beazer posted a quarterly net loss at $59.1 million, or $0.80 per share, versus a loss of $27.8 million, or $0.41 per share, in the year-ago period. Its loss from continuing operations came in at $0.75 per share. Its revenue dipped 49% to $172.8 million. However, analysts were expecting a loss of $0.46 per share on rev of $230.2 million. Beazer reported that its total home closings dropped 49% to 791 homes. However, new orders climbed 23.7%.
Fossil Inc FOSL reported upbeat quarterly profit, but issued weaker-than-expected third-quarter profit projections. Fossil reported its Q2 earnings at $51.4 million, or $0.80 per share, versus $54.5 million, or $0.80 per share, in the year-ago period. The company's revenue climbed 35% to $556.7 million. However, analysts were expecting earnings of $0.76 per share on revenue of $537.3 million.
AOL Inc AOL released its results for the second quarter on Tuesday. AOL posted a quarterly loss at $11.8 million, or $0.11 per share, versus a year-ago loss of $1.06 billion, or $9.89 per share. AOL's revenue dropped 8% y/y to $542.2 million from $592.2 million. However, analysts were expecting revenue of $535.1 million. AOL's advertising revenue climbed 5% to $319 million.
E.W. Scripps Co SSP swung to a second-quarter loss on Tuesday. Scripps posted a quarterly loss at $2.2 million, or $0.04 per share, versus a year-ago profit of $99.5 million, or $1.56 per share. Its revenue declined 3% to $183 million. Scripps reported that its television segment's revenue increased 3%, while earnings rose 1.7%. The newspaper segment's profit dropped 67%, while revenue declined 5.6%.
Endo Pharmaceuticals Holding Inc ENDP reported weaker-than-expected second-quarter profit and lifted its full-year forecast. Endo Pharmaceuticals reported its quarterly net income at $54.6 million, or $0.44 per share, versus $51.5 million, or $0.44 per share, in the year-ago period. Excluding items, the company's earnings came in at $1.05 per share. Its revenue surged 53% to $607.6 million. However, analysts were expecting earnings of $1.06 per share on revenue of $596.3 million. Endo Pharmaceuticals now projects 2011 adjusted earnings of $4.55 to $4.65 per share, up from its previous forecast of $4.20 to $4.30 per share. It projects sales of $2.72 to $2.8 billion, versus its earlier outlook of $2.35 to $2.45 billion. Analysts are expecting adjusted earnings of $4.46 per share on revenue of $2.64 billion.
Sempra Energy SRE reported a rise in its second-quarter earnings. Sempra Energy reported its quarterly profit at $511 million, or $2.12 per share, up from $222 million, or $0.89 per share, in the year-earlier period. Its revenue rose 21% y/y to $2.42 billion. Its adjusted earnings came in at $0.97 share. However, analysts were expecting earnings of $0.98 per share on revenue of $2.18 billion.
EchoStar Corp SATS swung to a profit of $18.5 million in the second quarter, versus a year-ago loss. EchoStar reported its quarterly earnings at 18.5 million, or $0.21 per share, versus a loss of $41.5 million, or $0.49 per share, in the year-ago quarter. Its revenue declined 3.1% to $584.2 million from $603 million.
ReneSola Ltd SOL released its quarterly results and withdrew its full-year projections. The company also issued downbeat Q3 revenue projections. For April-June, ReneSola's net profit attributable to common shareholders dipped 95% to $1.8 million, or $0.02 per ADS. Its revenue dropped 2% to $249.3 million. ReneSola projects Q3 revenue of $220 to $240 million, versus analysts' estimates of $264.6 million.
Ralcorp Holdings Inc RAH reported a 47% decline in its fiscal third-quarter profit. Ralcorp reported its quarterly earnings at $28.3 million, down from $53 million, in the year-ago period. Its adjusted earnings surged to $1.15 per share from $1.11 per share. Its revenue climbed 22% to $1.17 billion. However, analysts were expecting earnings of $1.15 per share on revenue of $1.15 billion.
Apollo Global Management LLC APO released its results for the second quarter on Tuesday. Apollo reported a quarterly loss at $51 million, or $0.46 per Class A share, versus a loss of $75.1 million, or $0.79 per Class A share, in the year-ago period. Its revenue surged to $308.9 million from $79.3 million. However, analysts were expecting earnings of $0.31 per share on revenue of $331 million.
InterContinental Hotels Group PLC IHG reported a rise in its first-half profit. InterContinental Hotels' operating profit surged 23% y/y to $269 million, versus analysts' estimates of $254 million. Its revenue rose 10% to $850 million. Its revenue per available room climbed 6.7% in the half and 6.5% in the second quarter.
Cablevision Systems Corp CVC reported a rise in its second-quarter profit. Cablevision reported its quarterly net income at $87.8 million, or $0.31 per share, up from $60.9 million, or $0.20 per share, in the year-ago period. Its revenue climbed 9.1% to $1.69 billion. Cablevision reported that it added 5,000 Internet customers during the quarter. It also added 27,000 phone customers during the same period.
Inergy LP NRGY reported wider-than-expected Q3 loss. Inergy posted a quarterly loss at $35.5 million, or $0.32 per share, versus a loss of $35.1 million, or $0.26 per share, in the year-earlier period. Its total revenue surged 33% y/y to $388.7 million. However, analysts were expecting a loss of $0.19 per share on revenue of $371.4 million.
Hecla Mining Co HL reported downbeat second-quarter profit. Hecla Mining reported its quarterly income applicable to common shareholders at $33.2 million, or $0.11 per share, up from $13.7 million, or $0.05 per share, in the year-ago period. Its revenue climbed 33% to $117.9 million. However, analysts were expecting earnings of $0.14 per share on revenue of $121.1 million.
Enterprise Products Partners LP EPD reported a 27% rise in its second-quarter profit on Tuesday. Enterprise Products Partners reported its quarterly profit at $449 million, or $0.51 per share, up from $354 million, or $0.26 per share, in the year-ago period. However, analysts were expecting earnings of $0.47 per share. The company's revenue surged to $11.2 billion from $7.5 billion.
Caesars Entertainment Corp released its results for the second quarter on Tuesday. Caesars posted a quarterly loss at $155.5 million, versus a loss of $274 million, in the year-ago period. Its net revenue rose 0.4% to $2.23 billion.
RWE AG RWEOY swung to a net loss in the second quarter. RWE posted a net loss of EUR229 million, versus a EUR486 million net profit in the year-ago period. RWE's net profit in the January-to-June period declined 22.1% y/y to EUR1.59 billion, from EUR2.04 billion. However, analysts were expecting a net profit of EUR1.74 billion. Its operating profit dropped 32.7% y/y to EUR3.34 billion, from EUR4.96 billion. Its revenue came in at EUR27.46 billion, versus analysts' estimates of EUR28.21 billion.
China Overseas Land & Investment Ltd CAOVF reported a 35% rise in its first-half net profit. China Overseas Land's net profit for the six months ended June 30 surged to HK$6.84 billion, from HK$5.07 billion, in the year-ago period. The company's revenue surged 25% y/y to HK$21.88 billion from HK$17.55 billion.
Tokyo Electric Power Co TKECY posted a net loss of Y571.76 billion for the three months through June. In May, Tepco posted a loss of Y1.247 trillion for the 12 months ended March. Tepco posted a quarterly operating loss of Y52.05 billion, versus a Y62.88 billion profit in the earlier year. Its revenue declined 7.2% to Y1.133 trillion from Y1.221 trillion.
