BroadSoft Inc BSFT reported upbeat third-quarter results on Monday. BroadSoft projects Q4 adjusted earnings of $0.23 to $0.30 per share on sales of $36 to $38 million. However, analysts were expecting earnings of $0.27 per share on sales of $36.2 million. BroadSoft's quarterly earnings rose to $7.3 million, or $0.26 per share, from $1.2 million, or $0.05 per share, in the year-ago period. Its revenue jumped 60% to $35.7 million. Excluding special items, BroadSoft's earnings came in at $0.38 per share, versus analysts' estimates of $0.22 per share.
Hospitality Properties Trust HPT reported a 5.4% drop in its third-quarter earnings. Hospitality Properties' quarterly profit declined to $47.5 million, from $50.2 million, in the year-ago period. Its earnings per share dropped to $0.32 from $0.35. Hospitality Properties' funds from operations declined to $0.79 per share from $0.82 per share. Hospitality Properties' revenue surged 13% to $318.7 million. However, analysts were expecting funds from operations of $0.81 per share on revenue of $294.8 million.
Sysco Corp SYY released its results for the third quarter on Monday. Sysco reported its quarterly profit at $302.7 million, or $0.51 per share, versus $299.1 million, or $0.51 per share, in the year-ago period. Its revenue gained to $10.59 billion from $9.75 billion. However, analysts were expecting earnings of $0.52 per share on revenue of $10.43 billion.
KT Corp KT reported a 40.7% drop in its Q3 net profit. KT Corp's quarterly net profit dropped to KRW255.7 billion (US$229.7 million), from KRW430.9 billion, in the year-ago period. However, analysts were expecting a net profit of KRW279.9 billion. KT's operating profit dropped 12.6% to KRW516.4 billion. Its sales declined 6.2% to KRW4.992 trillion.
PostNL NV TNTTY swung to a Q3 net loss and lifted its forecast for 2011. PostNL posted a net loss of EUR313 million, versus a net profit of EUR75 million, in the year-ago quarter. PostNL's quarterly revenue fell 2.5% to EUR991 million, from EUR1.02 billion, in the year-ago period. Its underlying revenue dropped 2% to EUR996 million.
Dish Network Corp DISH reported downbeat Q3 profit. Dish Network lost 111,000 subscribers in the third quarter. The company's quarterly earnings came in at $186 million, or $0.71 per share, versus analysts' estimates of $0.73 per share. Dish Network reported quarterly revenue of $3.6 billion, versus analysts' estimates of $3.64 billion.
Towers Watson & Co TW reported an 80% surge in its fiscal first-quarter earnings. Towers Watson projects current-quarter earnings of $1.18 to $1.22 per share on revenue of $840 million to $855 million. However, analysts were expecting earnings of $1.21 per share on revenue of $846 million. Towers Watson's quarterly profit climbed to $59.7 million, or $0.82 per share, from $33.2 million, or $0.45 per share, in the year-ago period. Its revenue gained 7.8% to $810.4 million. Excluding certain items, Towers Watson earned $1.19 per share, versus the company's earlier forecast of $1.02 to $1.07 per share on revenue of $800 million to $825 million.
Tekelec TKLC swung to a profit in the third quarter. Tekelec lifted its full-year earnings forecast to $0.36 to $0.43 per share on revenue of $395 million to $410 million, versus its earlier projection of $0.22 to $0.32 per share on revenue of $360 million to $400 million. Tekelec reported its quarterly profit at $762,000, or $0.01 per share, versus a year-ago loss of $134,000, or less than a penny per share. Excluding certain items, Tekelec earned $0.19 per share. Its revenue fell 2% to $106.2 million. Tekelec in October estimated earnings of $0.16 to $0.20 per share on revenue of $103 million to $106 million.
EchoStar Corp SATS swung to a loss in the third quarter. EchoStar posted a quarterly loss of $19.1 million, or $0.22 per share, versus ayear-ago profit of $5.2 million, or $0.06 per share. Its revenue surged 42% to $863.2 million.
Quicksilver Resources Inc KWK reported a 32% rise in its third-quarter earnings. Quicksilver's quarterly profit surged to $28.7 million, or $0.17 per share, from $21.8 million, or $0.13 per share, in the year-ago period. Excluding certain items, Quicksilver earned $0.03 per share. Its revenue gained 9.3% to $259.9 million. However, analysts were expecting earnings of $0.05 per share on revenue of $222 million.
RioCan Real Estate Investment Trust RIOCF reported a 14% surge in its third-quarter funds from operations. RioCan's quarterly FFO surged to C$97 million, or 37 Canadian cents per unit, from C$85 million, or 35 Canadian cents per unit, in the year-ago period. Its net income surged by C$112 million to C$168 million.
Cameco Corp CCJ reporetd a rise in its third quarter operating profit. Excluding one-time items, Cameco earned C$104 million, or 26 Canadian cents per share, versus C$80 million, or 20 Canadian cents per share, in the year-ago period. Its quarterly net profit came in at C$39 million, or 10 Canadian cents a share, versus C$98 million, or 25 Canadian cents per share, in the year-ago period.
Ensign Energy Services Inc ESVIF reported a strong rise in its third-quarter net profit. Ensign Energy's quarterly net income climbed to C$64 million ($62.9 million), or 42 Canadian cents per share, from C$32.3 million, or 21 Canadian cents per share, in the year-earlier period. On an adjusted basis, Ensign Energy's earnings came in at 34 Canadian cents per share. Ensign Energy's revenue surged 39% to C$475.7 million. However, analysts were expecting earnings of 30 Canadian cents per share on revenue of C$465.1 million.
Yukon-Nevada Gold Corp YNGFF reported a narrower third-quarter loss. Yukon-Nevada Gold posted a quarterly net loss at $18 million, versus a loss of $103.8 million, in the year-ago period. The company raised its quarterly production to 21,296 ounces of gold versus 18,636 ounces.
Vermilion Energy Inc VEMTF reported a strong rise in its quarterly profit. Vermilion's July-September earnings climbed to C$64.4 million, or 71 Canadian cents per share, from C$24.6 million, or 29 Canadian cents per share, in the year-ago period.
