Ciena Corp CIEN reported a narrower first-quarter loss. Ciena posted a quarterly loss of $47.7 million, or $0.49 per share, versus a year-ago loss of $79.1 million, or $0.84 per share. Its adjusted loss came in at $0.17 per share. Its revenue dropped to $416.7 million, from $433.3 million. However, analysts were expecting a loss of $0.04 per share on revenue of $426 million. Ciena projects Q2 revenue of $435 million to $460 million, versus analysts' estimates of $450.6 million.
Lincoln Educational Services Corp LINC reported a decline in its fourth-quarter net income. Lincoln projects to post a Q1 loss of $0.18 to $0.22 per share on revenue of $102 million to $105 million. Analysts were projecting a profit of $0.09 per share on revenue of $107.3 million. Lincoln's fourth-quarter net income dropped to $6.2 million, or $0.28 per share, from $23.2 million, or $1.04 per share, in the year-ago period. Its revenue declined 31% to $115.6 million. However, analysts were expecting earnings of $0.23 per share, on revenue of $115.3 million.
Canadian Solar Inc CSIQ swung to a Q4 loss. Canadian Solar posted a quarterly loss of $59.9 million, or $1.39 per share, versus a year-ago profit of $25.5 million, or $0.58 per share. Its revenue rose 4.7% to $474.1 million. However, analysts were expecting a loss of $0.36 per share on revenue of $485 million.
Children's Place Retail Stores Inc PLCE reported a 25% drop in its fiscal fourth-quarter earnings. Children's Place expects current-quarter earnings of $1.03 to $1.08 per share and earnings of $3.10 to $3.30 per share for the year. However, analysts were projecting earnings of $1.14 per share for current quarter and $3.64 per share for the year. Children's Place reported its quarterly profit at $24.2 million, or $0.98 per share, versus $32.1 million, or $1.23 per share, in the year-ago period. Excluding special items, Children's Place posted adjusted earnings from continuing operations of $0.87 per share. Its same-store sales dropped 2.7%. It earlier expected earnings of $0.85 to $0.90 per share. The company's net sales rose 0.9% to $457.5 million, versus anslysts' estimates of $478 million.
Brown Shoe Co Inc BWS posted downbeat fourth-quarter results. Brown Shoe posted a quarterly loss of $8.2 million, or $0.21 per share, versus a year-ago profit of $3.4 million, or $0.08 per share. On an adjusted basis, Brown Shoe earned $0.10 per share, versus analysts' estimates of $0.20 per share. Brown Shoe's revenue climbed 4% to $628.9 million, versus analysts' estimates of $643.5 million. Brown Shoe projects full-year adjusted earnings of $0.78 to $0.92 per share, versus analysts' estimates of $0.78 per share.
Bon-Ton Stores Inc BONT reported an 8.1% drop in its fiscal fourth-quarter profit. Bon-Ton's quarterly profit declined to $78.2 million, or $4 per share, from $85 million, or $4.41 per share, in the year-ago period. Bon-Ton last month reported sales of $983.2 million. Its same-store sales fell 2.6% for the quarter. Bon-Ton's gross margin declined to 34.6% from 37%.
Maidenform Brands Inc MFB posted a weaker-than-expected fourth-quarter profit and issued weak Q1 forecast. Maidenform projects Q1 earnings of $0.22 to $0.26 per share, on revenue of $150 million to $155 million. However, analysts were projecting earnings of $0.41 per share on revenue of $166.2 million. Maidenform posted a quarterly loss of $3.1 million, or $0.13 per share, versus a year-ago profit of $6.7 million, or $0.29 per share. Excluding one-off costs, Maidenform broke even, versus analysts' expectations of a profit of $0.02 per share. Maidenform's sales climbed 5% to $124.5 million, versus analysts' estimates of $116.2 million.
American Eagle Outfitters AEO reported a drop in its fourth-quarter profit. American Eagle's quarterly profit declined to $51.3 million, or $0.26 per share, from $87 million, or $0.44 per share, in the year-earlier period. Excluding items, American Eagle's adjusted earnings came in at $0.35 per share. Its sales rose to $1.05 billion from $916 million. However, analysts were expecting earnings of $0.35 per share on revenue of $1.05 billion. American Eagle projects Q1 earnings of $0.08 to $0.10 per share, versus analysts' estimates of $0.10 per share.
Brown-Forman Inc BF reported a 5% drop in its third-quarter profit. Brown-Forman's quarterly profit dropped to $133.1 million, or $0.93 per share, from $140.7 million, or $0.96 per share, in the year-earlier period. Its revenue fell to $959 million from $962.4 million. However, analysts were expecting earnings of $1.01 per share on revenue of $947.6 million. Brown-Forman projects 2012 earnings of $3.50 to $3.65 per share, versus analysts' estimates of $3.64 per share.
Cellcom Israel Ltd CEL reported a 76% decline in its fourth-quarter profit. Cellcom's quarterly net income fell to 76 million shekels ($20 million), from 319 million, in the year-ago period. It earlier expected net profit between 70 million shekels and 80 million. Its revenue rose 0.2% to 1.67 billion shekels. Cellcom's earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation and amortisation dropped 32.6% to 425 million.
Simcere Pharmaceutical Group SCR reported its Q4 EPS at $0.12 on revenue of $81.2 million. However, analysts were expecting earnings of $0.07 per share on revenue of $85.65 million.
The Fresh Market Inc TFM reported its Q1 EPS at $0.38 on revenue of $320.8 million. Analysts were expecting earnings of $0.38 per share on revenue of $320.87 million.
WiLAN Inc WILN reported its FY2011 EPS at $0.58 on revenue of $105.8 million. However, analysts were expecting earnings of $0.58 per share on revenue of $107.4 million.
Express Inc EXPR reported its Q1 EPS at $0.7 on revenue of $673.20 million. However, analysts were projecting earnings of $0.68 per share on revenue of $676.57 million.
Bourbon SA BOUBF swung to a second-half profit. Bourbon posted a profit of €28.2 million, versus a year-ago loss of €1.8 million. Its revenue surged 18% to €525.3 million from €443.6 million. Bourbon's board proposed a 2011 dividend of €0.82 per share.
Adidas AG ADDYY reported a surge in its fourth-quarter net income. Adidas' quarterly profit surged to €18 million ($23.6 million), or €0.09 per share, from €7 million, or €0.03 per share, in the year-ago quarter. Its sales rose to €3.26 billion, from €2.93 billion. However, analysts were expecting a profit of €19 million on revenue of €3.14 billion.
Admiral Group PLC AMIGY reported a rise in its full-year profit. Admiral's attributable profit after tax climbed to 221.2 million pounds ($347.8 million), versus 193.8 million pounds, in 2010. Its pretax profit climbed to around 300 million pounds, from 265.5 million pounds. However, analysts were expecting a pretax profit of 289 million pounds. Its net revenue surged to 870.3 million pounds versus 640.8 million pounds. The group's turnover jumped 38% to 2.19 billion pounds.
