Before It Happens: Next Week's Top ETF Earnings Plays

This is a new feature from the ETF Professor. Every Friday shortly after the close, we'll take a look at some ETFs that are setting to be in play in the next week. As next week is heavy on earnings reports from some marquee names across a broad swath of sectors, today's column is an emphasis on earnings plays. 1) Anything and everything oil: Well, that might be a slight reach, but the following ETFs all have some of their biggest holdings reporting results next week: WisdomTree International Energy ETF DKA, Oil Services HOLDRs OIH, Energy Select Sector SPDR XLE and the iShares Dow Jones US Oil & Gas Exploration & Production Index Fund IEO. OIH and DKA in particular should be trade-worthy all week. 2) SPDR KBW Insurance ETF KIE: Wednesday brings earnings reports from Hartford Financial HIG and Lincoln National LNC and those reports could stir KIE. 3) Market Vectors Coal ETF KOL: Massey Energy MEE, the largest coal producer in Central Applachia, reports on Tuesday, but the big news could be anything Massey has to say about its plans to sell itself or remain independent. Patriot Coal PCX also reports on Tuesday. 4) iShares Spain Index Fund EWP: Europe can't go a week without being in the news and Banco Santander STD, the continent's largest bank, reports results on Thursday before the bell, so EWP could be a nice two-day play to end the week.
