A new Benzinga reader poll shows President Donald Trump with a strong approval after his first 52 days in office since his January inauguration.
What Happened: It’s been just over 50 days since Trump took back the presidency after winning the 2024 presidential election.
A new Benzinga reader poll shows the approval rating given to Trump for his first 52 days in the White House.
"How do you feel about Donald Trump's first 52 days back in office?" Benzinga asked.
The results were:
- I didn't vote for Trump: 44%
- I voted for Trump and approve of his first 52 days in office: 37%
- I voted for Trump but disapprove of his first 52 days in office: 15%
- I voted for Trump but have no strong opinion: 4%
After stripping out the 44% of voters who did not vote for Trump, the president's approval rating from people who voted for him in the poll looks like this:
- Favorable: 69.4%
- Unfavorable: 28.6%
- No opinion: 8.2%
The poll shows a strong favorable rating for Trump, but it comes with the caveat that this is voters who selected him in the 2024 presidential election.
Why It's Important: When including the 44% of the poll that said they didn't vote for Trump, the approval rating would likely drop significantly. Only securing seven out of 10 voters from five months ago to say they approve of the first 52 days may not be the best showing for Trump.
Other polls of nationally registered voters have shown low approval ratings for Trump, including an Emerson College March poll that showed Trump's approval rating at 49% and a disapproval rating of 43%.
In that poll, Trump's handling of the war between Russia and Ukraine was one of the main reasons for his low approval rating with 44% of voters disapproving of the president's handling of the war and only 41% approving.
For the Benzinga poll, economic conditions might play heavier into whether voters approve or disapprove of the president.
The SPDR S&P 500 ETF Trust SPY, which tracks the S&P 500 Index, is down 5.2% since the closing price on Jan. 17, before Trump took office. While the index and ETF hit new all-time highs in February, they have since fallen and trade below where they were when Joe Biden was still president.
Leading cryptocurrency Bitcoin BTC/USD is down 16.7% from its price on Jan. 19, before Trump's inauguration. Similar to the S&P 500 Index, Bitcoin hit new all-time highs under Trump with a six-figure price reached on inauguration day. Since that time, the cryptocurrency has fallen in value.
Macroeconomic concerns related to tariffs, international conflicts, inflation and more have made investors uneasy and put pressure on stocks and cryptocurrencies.
Benzinga will continue to track the president's approval rating as his term goes on in 2025.
