The average investor probably appreciates no-hassle investments more than anything else. Most investors simply want to set it and forget it when it comes to their portfolio. Far fewer investors are willing or capable of spending their time tethered to trading stations in an attempt to find Alpha. That&rsquo;s part of the reason <a href="https://investorplace.com/stock-types/blue-chip-stocks/">blue-chip stocks</a> are such a strong investment to buy.



They&rsquo;re generally hassle-free and can be reasonably expected to grow consistently over the long term. That&rsquo;s what happens to firms that have established leading positions in their respective industries and sectors. They tend to benefit from the stability that naturally flows from their dominant positions.



In short, investing in any of these blue-chip stocks to buy will likely lead to long-term gains and minimal headaches.



<h2>American Express (AXP)</h2>

The company&rsquo;s most recent earnings report provides direct evidence of that suggestion.



First quarter revenues <a href="https://ir.americanexpress.com/news/investor-relations-news/investor-relations-news-details/2024/American-Express-First-Quarter-Revenue-Increased-11-to-15.8-Billion-and-EPS-Increased-39-to-3.33-Reflecting-Continued-Business-Momentum/default.aspx">increased by 11%</a> while earnings per share jumped up by 39%. That strong performance allowed the company to reaffirm its previous 2024 guidance. In turn, that is a prime example of the relative ease of investing in American Express. Investors aren&rsquo;t going to find many companies that can steadily grow and reward shareholders like American Express.



It&rsquo;s well known that Americans continue to use credit cards at historical levels. Credit card debt has also ballooned to historic highs. However, American Express caters to a more affluent membership base that tends to use credit more wisely. That suggests that the company represents less risk than does some of its counterparts. I&rsquo;m not arguing that those other firms including Visa (NYSE:<a href="https://investorplace.com/stock-quotes/v-stock-quote/">V</a>) aren&rsquo;t investment worthy, only that American Express might be slightly better.&nbsp;



<h2>Costco (COST)</h2>

That is evident in the fact that the stock has increased from $75 in 2021 to $723 today.



Costco stock has also outperformed the S&amp;P 500 during that period with a slight exception in 2022 when it dropped by 20%. During the same time frame the S&amp;P 500 fell by 19%. Other than that slight exception, Costco has outpaced the growth in the S&amp;P 500 by nearly a factor of two. Costco remains one of the best individual stocks to consider for those looking to identify future winners.



Costco revenues reached $23.48 billion in the month of March. That represents a <a href="https://investor.costco.com/news/news-details/2024/Costco-Wholesale-Corporation-Reports-March-Sales-Results-and-Announces-an-Increase-in-Its-Quarterly-Cash-Dividend/default.aspx">9.4% increase</a> year-over-year. The company looks particularly strong in relation to e-commerce. Sales improved by 28.3% over that same time frame. During the same period a year earlier they already improved by more than 14%.



The company truly appears to be moving from strength to strength.&nbsp;



<h2>Walmart (WMT)</h2>

Walmart has historically battled Amazon (NASDAQ:<a href="https://investorplace.com/stock-quotes/amzn-stock-quote/">AMZN</a>) for retail domination. While WMT dominates the brick-and-mortar space, Amazon controls e-commerce. Within that, Walmart is particularly strong in the grocery sector and is the largest grocer in the U.S. overall. Unsurprisingly, Amazon is aiming to pull market share away from Walmart. The company <a href="https://www.pcmag.com/news/amazon-launches-new-monthly-subscription-for-grocery-delivery">recently announced</a> that it will offer a grocery delivery subscription.&nbsp;



Meanwhile, Walmart continues to rapidly grow its e-commerce business. That segment recently crossed the $100 million annual revenue threshold. The point here is very simple: any investor seeking a no hassle retail stock should consider Walmart or Amazon. The two firms Continue a tit-for-tat war across multiple verticals while dominating retail overall.&nbsp;

The processed transactions soared 11%, driven by resilient consumer spending. A further improvement in consumer spending could mean higher revenue in the coming quarters.&nbsp;



Other than Europe, the company saw a 16% rise in cross-border volume, which shows its strong&nbsp;global position. Morgan Stanley&rsquo;s <a href="https://www.reuters.com/business/finance/morgan-stanleys-profit-rises-investment-banking-recovers-2024-04-16/">quarterly results</a> show that investment banking has rebounded, and&nbsp;the company&nbsp;is building momentum for an excellent year ahead. Its wealth management unit grew by 5%, while the income from investment banking increased by 16%. The company reported&nbsp;a revenue&nbsp;of $15.14 billion and an EPS of $2.02, beating estimates.&nbsp;



The quarter saw a <a href="https://www.morganstanley.com/about-us-ir/shareholder/1q2024.pdf">138% surge</a> in the EPS quarter-over-quarter and a 19% rise year-over-year. Despite a drop in the advisory revenue, Morgan Stanley saw a surge in debt underwriting revenue by over 100% YOY. The CEO stated, &ldquo;The pipeline is clearly growing&rdquo;. 



The company pays a dividend of $0.85 per share and has a yield of 3.69%.&nbsp; It has increased dividends for 11 consecutive years, and the positive momentum in the business could lead to a steady dividend hike.&nbsp;



Once interest rates are reduced, the stock could rally. This dividend stock under $100 is a strong buy. Analysts have raised the price target of the stock after the results.&nbsp;



<h2>American Express (AXP)</h2>

It reported an <a href="https://ir.americanexpress.com/news/investor-relations-news/investor-relations-news-details/2024/American-Express-First-Quarter-Revenue-Increased-11-to-15.8-Billion-and-EPS-Increased-39-to-3.33-Reflecting-Continued-Business-Momentum/default.aspx">11% YOY revenue growth</a> to hit $15.8 billion and an impressive 34% YOY net income growth.



This number captured the attention of investors since it led to a 39% jump in the EPS. The current financials&nbsp;prove&nbsp;that American Express is set to benefit from the increase in the use of debit and credit cards. This ensures growth in any economic cycle.&nbsp;



It added 3.4 million new cards in the quarter, and as the world steadily moves towards cashless payments, American Express will continue to benefit. The most interesting information in the quarterly results is the growing demand from Gen Z and millennials, making American Express highly attractive to this&nbsp;specific&nbsp;demographic. About <a href="https://www.pymnts.com/earnings/2024/60percent-of-new-amex-accounts-are-opened-by-gen-z-millennials/">60% of the </a>new consumer accounts were from Gen Z and millennials.



Trading at $238 today, this stock is up 26% YTD and 49% in the year. It has gone from $140 in October to $238 today. AXP stock is very close to the 52-week high, and any pullback is a solid buying opportunity. The management aims to see <a href="https://www.reuters.com/business/finance/american-express-beats-profit-estimates-strong-spending-by-wealthy-customers-2024-04-19/">9%-11% revenue growth</a> through 2026.&nbsp;It is also a dividend stock with a yield of 1.17%.



Like&nbsp;the other two companies mentioned here, over half a dozen analysts have <a href="https://www.zacks.com/stock/research/AXP/price-target-stock-forecast#">upgraded their price target</a> for AXP stock after the blowout quarterly results.&nbsp;

We&rsquo;re a little more than halfway through<a href="https://advantage.factset.com/hubfs/Website/Resources%20Section/Research%20Desk/Earnings%20Insight/EarningsInsight_042624A.pdf"> first-quarter earnings season</a>, so now is the time to review this earnings season winners and losers. In general, market results have been encouraging so far. Forty-six percent of companies listed on the S&amp;P 500 have reported their quarterly results. Seventy-seven percent beat forecasts with their earnings or profits, while 60% announced better-than-expected revenue or sales. That&rsquo;s quite good considering it comes amid reports that <a href="https://www.reuters.com/markets/us/view-q1-us-gdp-shows-surprise-slowing-uncomfortable-inflation-2024-04-25/">the economy is slowing</a> and inflation remains stubbornly high.



Of course, not every company has hit it out of the park with their Q1 results. Many companies have missed expectations or offered weak forward guidance, sending their stocks down as a result. Each day is filled with headlines of stocks that are plunging after companies disappointed analysts and investors, erasing billions from market capitalizations. 



So, which companies have <a href="https://www.reuters.com/markets/us/sp-500-q1-earnings-estimated-growth-improves-stocks-up-week-2024-04-26/">come out ahead</a> and which have tanked with their Q1 financials? Let&rsquo;s take a look at some of this earnings season winners and losers.



<h2>Winners: Alphabet (GOOG/GOOGL)</h2>

The Google stock split is happening today."><div>Source: IgorGolovniov / Shutterstock.com</div></div>Google parent company Alphabet (NASDAQ:<a href="https://investorplace.com/stock-quotes/goog-stock-quote/">GOOG</a>, NASDAQ:<a href="https://investorplace.com/stock-quotes/googl-stock-quote/">GOOGL</a>) is hands down the biggest winner of the Q1 earnings season so far. <a href="https://www.cnbc.com/2024/04/25/alphabet-set-to-report-first-quarter-results-after-market-close.html">GOOGL stock rose 14%</a> immediately after the company reported blowout first-quarter earnings, declared its first dividend payment and announced a new $70 billion stock buyback program. It was a triumph among tech companies and led to the entire stock market rising. On June 17, Alphabet will pay its stockholders a cash dividend of 20 cents per share, with promises of more to come.



Beyond the dividend and stock buyback, Alphabet reported earnings per share (EPS) of $1.89 versus $1.51 that was expected among analysts. The Q1 profit was up 57% from a year earlier. Revenue from January through March totaled $80.54 billion compared to $78.59 billion that had been estimated. Sales in Q1 increased 15% from a year ago, the fastest rate of growth in two years. Much of the success was driven by <a href="https://finance.yahoo.com/news/alphabet-market-cap-tops-2-trillion-after-earnings-beat-dividend-announcement-092630401.html">a rebound in online advertising</a> after two years in the doldrums.



GOOGL stock has now increased 54% over the past 12 months. 



<h2>Domino&rsquo;s Pizza (DPZ)</h2>

The company&rsquo;s first-quarter financial results beat Wall Street forecasts on the top and bottom lines. Domino&rsquo;s reported EPS of $3.58, well ahead of the $3.40 consensus expectation of analysts. Profits were up 22% from the previous year. Revenue came in at $1.08 billion, which was slightly above Wall Street forecasts. Sales rose 6% year-over-year (YOY).



Domino&rsquo;s attributed the <a href="https://ca.finance.yahoo.com/video/dominos-stock-rises-same-store-140938882.html">strong financial results</a> to accelerating sales at its more than 20,000 outlets worldwide. The company is executing its &ldquo;Hungry for More&rdquo; growth strategy that aims to open 1,100 new stores by 2028, increase retail sales by 7% a year and grow operating income by 8% per year. Indications are that Domino&rsquo;s is succeeding with its plan. Same-store sales increased 5.6% at the company&rsquo;s U.S. locations in Q1, beating 1% growth at its international outlets. Growth was driven largely by higher delivery orders.



Domino&rsquo;s has also relaunched its <a href="https://www.pymnts.com/news/loyalty-and-rewards-news/2024/dominos-captures-larger-slice-revenue-with-rewards-program/">loyalty rewards program</a> to better engage with lower-frequency customers. The program now has 33 million active members. During Q1, Domino&rsquo;s opened 164 new restaurants, all but 20 of which are situated overseas. The company also repurchased $25 million worth of its own stock during the quarter. 



DPZ stock has gained 67% in the last 12 months.



<h2>Eli Lilly (LLY)</h2>

Lilly makes Medicines and Pharmaceuticals XI"><div>Source: Jonathan Weiss / Shutterstock.com</div></div>Shares of Eli Lilly (NYSE:<a href="https://investorplace.com/stock-quotes/lly-stock-quote/">LLY</a>) are up 5% after the pharmaceutical company reported a better-than-expected <a href="https://www.cnbc.com/2024/04/30/eli-lilly-lly-earnings-q1-2024.html">first-quarter profit</a> and raised its forward guidance as sales of its popular weight-loss drugs takeoff. The company announced EPS of $2.58 versus $2.46 that was expected on Wall Street. Revenue in the quarter missed analyst targets, coming in at $8.77 billion compared to $8.92 billion that was forecast. Despite the miss, sales were up 26% YOY.



Looking ahead, Eli Lilly said it now expects full-year earnings of $13.50 to $14 per share, up from previous guidance of $12.20 to $12.70 a share. The company expects full-year revenue of $42.4 billion to $43.6 billion, which is an increase of $2 billion at either end of the range. Analysts had expected full-year earnings of $12.50 a share and sales of $41.44 billion. Growing sales of blockbuster diabetes drug Mounjaro and newly launched weight-loss drug Zepbound are <a href="https://www.barrons.com/articles/eli-lilly-earnings-stock-price-zepbound-mounjaro-8a8b424f">driving results at Eli Lilly</a>.



The latest earnings included the first full quarter of Zepbound sales. The drug, which was approved by U.S. regulators last autumn, reported $517.4 million in Q1 sales. Some analysts have forecast that Zepbound could post more than $1 billion in sales in its first year on the market, and that it might become the <a href="https://www.cnbc.com/video/2023/11/08/eli-lillys-zepbound-has-a-strong-shot-of-being-the-biggest-drug-of-all-time-guggenheims-fernandez.html">biggest selling drug of all time</a>. 



LLY stock has increased 92% in the last 12 months.

The credit card giant reported strong first quarter profits as its customers continue to spend on shopping, dining out and travel. Of course, American Express benefits from the fact that its clients tend to be more affluent and their spending holds up better than most during economic downturns. American Express said that its <a href="https://www.barrons.com/articles/american-expresss-earnings-stock-price-e513d16c">cardholder spending</a> increased 7% from a year ago during Q1 of this year.



The credit card company reported EPS of $3.33 compared to $2.95 that was anticipated by analysts. Revenue in Q1 totaled $15.8 billion which matched Wall Street expectations. Sales were up 11% from a year earlier. Billed business, which represents the transaction value on American Express credit cards, rose 6% during the quarter to $367 billion. <a href="https://apnews.com/article/american-express-credit-cards-banks-earnings-71e11970f86555faec2636cade648eff">In terms of guidance</a>, American Express maintained its previous revenue growth forecast of 9% to 11% and a profit estimate of $12.65 to $13.15 per share for this year.



AXP stock has gained 46% in the last 12 months.



<h2>Losers: Meta Platforms (META)</h2>

CEO Mark Zuckerberg&rsquo;s <a href="https://www.cnbc.com/2024/04/25/mark-zuckerberg-net-worth-falls-18-billion-over-meta-earnings.html">net worth dropped by $18 billion</a> in one day after the Q1 print. Ironically, Meta&rsquo;s outlook overshadowed what were otherwise strong quarterly results.



Meta reported EPS of $4.71, exceeding the $4.32 that was expected among analysts who track the company. Earnings more than doubled from $2.20 a share in the previous year. Revenue in the quarter totaled $36.46 billion compared to $36.16 billion expected on Wall Street. <a href="https://www.investopedia.com/4-key-takeaways-from-meta-q1-2024-earnings-call-8638632">Sales were up 27% from a year earlier</a>, representing the fastest rate of growth since 2021. Sadly, the company&rsquo;s guidance fell short of Wall Street&rsquo;s expectations. Growing investments in mixed reality and AI also didn&rsquo;t sit well with analysts and investors.



META stock has fallen 15% since the Q1 print was delivered. However, the share price is still up nearly 84% in the last 12 months. Depending on how you look at it, META has managed to be one of the earnings season winners and losers.



<h2>McDonald&rsquo;s (MCD)</h2>

Despite launching an aggressive growth strategy, the Golden Arches continues to report <a href="https://www.cnbc.com/2024/04/30/mcdonalds-mcd-q1-2024-earnings.html">substandard quarterly results</a>. The company just announced mixed Q1 figures, which it blamed on consumers pulling back on discretionary spending and boycotts at its restaurants in the Middle East. The Chicago-based restaurant chain reported EPS of $2.70 versus $2.72 that was expected among analysts. Revenue amounted to $6.17 billion compared to $6.16 billion that was forecast.



Overall, sales at McDonald&rsquo;s increased 5% in Q1. Although global same-store sales rose 1.9% during the January through March period, that <a href="https://finance.yahoo.com/news/mcdonalds-q1-earnings-miss-sales-expectations-as-consumers-tighten-their-wallets-110212872.html">growth missed estimates</a> of 2.1%. During their earnings call, management acknowledged that higher menu prices have pushed some customers away. McDonald&rsquo;s also noted that its restaurants in the Middle East have been hurt by the Israel-Hamas conflict and related boycotts in that region. Earlier in April, McDonald&rsquo;s bought the 225 restaurants operated by its Israeli franchisee.



MCD stock has declined 8% over the past 12 months. 



<h2>Netflix (NFLX)</h2>

However, NFLX stock fell 9% after its latest print was made public because it announced that it will no longer report <a href="https://www.cnbc.com/2024/04/18/netflix-nflx-earnings-q1-2024.html#:~:text=The%20company%20posted%20revenue%20of,supported%20tier%20to%20boost%20revenue.">quarterly membership numbers</a> and average revenue per membership. Management said they are halting the reporting of subscriber numbers as they want investors to instead focus on metrics such as revenue and free cash flow. Investors took the news badly, with some claiming it&rsquo;s a sign that subscriber growth is slowing.



Controversy over the reporting of subscriber numbers overshadowed the fact that Netflix reported EPS of $5.28 compared to $4.52 that was expected on Wall Street. Revenue totaled $9.37 billion versus $9.28 billion that was estimated among analysts. As for subscribers, Netflix reported <a href="https://www.nytimes.com/2024/04/18/business/media/netflix-earnings.html">a grand total of 269.6 million</a> at the end of Q1, ahead of expectations for 264.2 million and up 16% from a year earlier. Management warned though that subscriber growth in the current second quarter will be lower than in the first due to what they called &ldquo;seasonality.&rdquo;



NFLX stock has fallen 9% during April, but the share price is up 72% over the last 12 months. Like META, NFLX&rsquo;s numbers make it both one of the earnings season winners and losers

BIDU is expanding its quantum computing sector and investing in R&amp;D spending on research and development. Recently, Tesla&nbsp;(NASDAQ:<a href="https://investorplace.com/stock-quotes/tsla-stock-quote/">TSLA</a>) and Baidu&nbsp;<a href="https://www.scmp.com/tech/big-tech/article/3261079/tesla-seals-deal-baidu-china-maps-whether-ceo-elon-musk-wants-them-or-not" target="_blank">sealed a deal</a>&nbsp;where Baidu will offer its Chinese maps to Tesla&nbsp;for the development of&nbsp;its full self-driving vehicle.&nbsp;



In fact, Baidu is one of the 20 Chinese entities with top-level map surveying qualifications So, the stock popped after this announcement. BIDU is up 5% in the week and is exchanging hands for $111. 



Even Apple held talks with Baidu for the&nbsp;<a href="https://www.globaltimes.cn/page/202403/1309555.shtml" target="_blank">usage of AI</a>&nbsp;for its devices in China. But no confirmation has come through yet. A drop in sales in China and growing competition could have led to Apple considering working with a Chinese company to accelerate AI in its models.&nbsp;



Overall, Baidu stock is down 9% YTD and 11% in the past 12 months. However, Baidu&rsquo;s AI investment and the Tesla deal could help revenue growth.&nbsp;



<h2>Pure Storage (PSTG)</h2>

In the fourth quarter, the company saw a rise in the subscription revenue. And it has a strong outlook for fiscal 2025. After beating estimates, the management guided for a double-digit percentage rate improvement in operating income and revenue.



For the&nbsp;<a href="https://investor.purestorage.com/news-and-events/press-releases/press-release-details/2024/Pure-Storage-Announces-Fiscal-Fourth-Quarter-and-Full-Year-2024-Financial-Results/default.aspx" target="_blank">full year,</a>&nbsp;its revenue came in at $2.8 billion and the subscription revenue stood at $1.2 billion, up 26% YOY. It ended the year with outstanding performance obligations worth $2.3 billion, up 31% YOY.&nbsp;



The stock is already up 127% in the 12 months and 50% YTD. It has set momentum for the year and the upcoming results could&nbsp;give it a boost. This under-the-radar stock can hit record highs.&nbsp;

The S&amp;P 500 and other major stock indices continue to waver. April continues to be a volatile month. Inflation continues to be sticky with rates growing above 3% for the third straight month in March. There are also other indications that growth may be slowing. Yet, there continues to be reason for S&amp;P 500 Bulls to remain optimistic.



For one, the markets have proven especially difficult to predict over the last few years. Just as soon as stocks are predicted to go one way they&rsquo;ve seemed to go the other. Beyond that, there continues to be hope for one or more rate cuts in 2024. In short, optimism is a far from unreasonable position at the moment.



The U.S. economy has proven particularly resilient. That strength has transferred to the stock market. The S&amp;P 500 is the best proxy for the U.S. economy which is yet another reason to remain bullish.



<h2>Google (GOOG,GOOGL)</h2>

It looks like the company has finally figured out how to harness the power and profitability of artificial intelligence. Google reported $23.7 billion in profits during the quarter, <a href="https://www.investopedia.com/4-key-takeaways-from-google-parent-alphabet-q1-2024-earnings-call-8638757">a 57% increase on a year-over-year basis</a>.&nbsp;



The company continues to invest heavily in AI. it wasn&rsquo;t always that way. Google fell behind other Tech Titans early on in the race to invest in artificial intelligence. Instead, it is a late push that has propelled Google back into the AI dominance conversation. The company has pushed billions of dollars into cloud and AI investment that are paying dividends.



By the way, Google announced that it will begin paying dividends while simultaneously initiating a share buyback program. Google&rsquo;s search engine&nbsp;product is again strong. The company has gained stability through its newly announced dividend program, and it seems to be on the right track in terms of AI. All of these factors should strengthen investor sentiment in the notion that Google is back.



<h2>Impinj (PI)</h2>

That should change following the blowout earnings report. Following a big beat, the stock soared by more than 20%.&nbsp;



The <a href="https://www.businesswire.com/news/home/20240424296191/en/Impinj-Reports-First-Quarter-2024-Financial-Results/">$76.8 million in revenues that the firm reported</a> was ahead of analyst estimates. Included in the report was also GAAP earnings of $33.3 million. Those strong earnings were bolstered by a $45 million dollar win in a patent litigation suit. While some may worry that that is a one-off win and that earnings will suffer, consider that Impinj will also benefit from strong intellectual property moving forward.



The company provides miniature radio frequency ID chips used to collect data on items.&nbsp;



Impends also provided strong guidance suggesting impressive sequential growth. The company expects revenue to rise to between $96 and $99 million in the coming quarter. GAAP Income should fall somewhere in the neighborhood of $22 million. That isn&rsquo;t bad at all considering that the company won&rsquo;t have the benefit of a $45 million litigation payout.&nbsp;



<h2>American Express (AXP)</h2>

It continues to outperform rivals including Visa (NYSE:<a href="https://investorplace.com/stock-quotes/v-stock-quote/">V</a>) and Mastercard (NYSE:<a href="https://investorplace.com/stock-quotes/ma-stock-quote/">MA</a>).



That&rsquo;s particularly true in 2024. AXP shares are up more than 25% year-to-date as I write this. Visa and MasterCard have risen by approximately 5% and 8% during the same time frame, respectively. The outperformance of American Express relative to those firms is not a new phenomenon. Instead, it dates back over the past five years or so. American Express stock has <a href="https://invezz.com/news/2024/04/23/heres-why-american-express-axp-stock-is-beating-visa-mastercard/">grown by triple digits</a> during that period<a href="https://invezz.com/news/2024/04/23/heres-why-american-express-axp-stock-is-beating-visa-mastercard/"> </a>while its rivals have grown substantially less.



That begs the obvious question: what differentiates American Express from its rivals? The obvious answer can be found in the credit-worthiness of its members.&nbsp; American Express caters to a more affluent member base with higher credit-worthiness. As American credit card debt continually soars to new record highs, American Express is better positioned overall.&nbsp;



<h2>Royal Caribbean (RCL)</h2>

That&rsquo;s the narrative the markets are following after Royal Caribbean (NYSE:<a href="https://investorplace.com/stock-quotes/rcl-stock-quote/">RCL</a>) posted strong first quarter earnings.&nbsp;



Those earnings included some very positive figures including $360 million in net income. That was particularly welcome given the fact that Royal Caribbean posted a $48 million net loss a year ago during the same period.&nbsp;



Revenues jumped by more than 29%. Consumer demand and spending for experiences including travel remains especially resilient. Growth in consumer demand for experience is <a href="https://www.marketwatch.com/story/royal-caribbeans-stock-rallied-toward-a-record-after-a-big-profit-beat-and-raised-outlook-as-cruise-demand-remained-very-robust-538e810c">more than double growth in consumer demand for goods</a> over the last 12 months.



It continues to be quite a turnaround story for Royal Caribbean and other cruise stocks. Investors will remember that the big three cruise lines were all forced to cease operations during the pandemic. The story was similar to that for airlines. Each industry incurred massive losses as their respective fleets sat idle. However, there is one important difference: Cruise lines tend to benefit&nbsp;much less from government subsidies because they are often registered in tax havens. Point being, their resurgence is that much more impressive.



<h2>AMD (AMD)</h2>

Back in October 2023, investors could have picked up shares for under $100. They quickly rose to more than $200 by early March. The reason is simple: AMD is inherently connected to the rise of AI and is Nvidia&rsquo;s (NASDAQ:<a href="https://investorplace.com/stock-quotes/nvda-stock-quote/">NVDA</a>) primary challenger. That connection brings it higher in the good times and pulls it lower in the bad.



There&rsquo;s currently reason to believe that the bad may be subsiding.&nbsp;AMD&rsquo;s charts show that the company&rsquo;s&nbsp;share price has instead steadily continued to rise over the last week. It appears that there is significant resistance near the $150 share price mark.&nbsp;



There isn&rsquo;t much to glean from that information. There&rsquo;s no substantial catalyst that sets AMD apart and has made it settle in that range. It&rsquo;s more of a simple recognition that the markets continue to believe in AMD overall. The company will soon report results and any positive news there promises to send it higher again.



<h2>Tesla (TSLA)</h2>

One of the best ways to understand what is currently going on is to work through its delivery numbers. Tesla delivered 387,000 vehicles during the period. That was so far less than expected in earlier forecasts. Lower than expected deliveries leads to weaker earnings. However, Tesla&rsquo;s 45 cents of earnings during the quarter were better than expected given how much deliveries fell. It&rsquo;s very much a case of finding the positive in the negative.



Meanwhile, Tesla <a href="https://www.reuters.com/business/autos-transportation/teslas-plan-affordable-cars-takes-page-detroit-rivals-2024-04-26/">announced accelerated development plans</a> for a low-priced vehicle. It&rsquo;s clear that market demand for high-priced electric vehicles is not nearly as strong as it once was. The release of a low-price vehicle should make Tesla more competitive once again. Growth rate should rise as a result.&nbsp;



Beyond that, it&rsquo;s fair to assert that the market is looking for reasons to love Tesla as it has long suffered. Those same investors are increasingly concerned about other Magnificent Seven stocks and their valuations. That makes Tesla a prime choice at the moment.&nbsp;



<h2>Broadcom (AVGO)</h2>



Broadcom (NASDAQ:<a href="https://investorplace.com/stock-quotes/avgo-stock-quote/">AVGO</a>) is one of the strongest secular stock choices for the AI chip boom. The company represents a strong mix of exposure to long-term trends, growth, and stability&nbsp;that few other firms can match.

That broad exposure to a number of high growth niches results in rapid growth. Revenues continue to grow at a rate of nearly 40% per quarter. Share prices have doubled over the last year. It all combines to suggest that Broadcom is a uniquely positioned chip designer with long-term potential.



Yet, at the same time, Broadcom is a stable firm. The company currently provides $21 in dividends for each share per quarter.&nbsp;



Again, there is perhaps no other firm that provides that combination of long-term growth exposure and stability. Despite Broadcom&rsquo;s rapid growth over the past year it would be a mistake for bullish investors to ignore it at this point.
