Investing legend Warren Buffett is known for finding stock undervalued and unloved by Wall Street and he may have done that again with a new investment unveiled in his latest<a href="https://www.benzinga.com/news/earnings/25/02/43756510/berkshire-hathaway-adjusts-portfolio-keeps-apple-stake-unchanged-offloads-stakes-in-bofa"> fourth-quarter 13F.</a>
What Happened: Known for decades of strong investment returns that have<a href="https://www.benzinga.com/general/education/25/01/42832123/warren-buffett-beats-sp-500-in-2024-how-oracle-of-omahas-returns-compare-over-past-20-years"> outperformed the markets</a>, Buffett unveiled a new investment in beer and wine company Constellation Brands (NYSE:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/STZ#NYSE">STZ</a>).
Berkshire Hathaway Inc (NYSE:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/BRK#NYSE">BRK</a>) (NYSE:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/BRK#NYSE">BRK</a>) unveiled a 5,624,324 share purchase of Constellation Brands stock in the fourth quarter in the latest 13F filing.
The position was recently valued at $1.24 billion, representing around 0.5% of Berkshire Hathaway&#8217;s investing portfolio. In the latest filing, Constellation Brands ranks 18th by dollar value out of more than 30 stocks held by Berkshire Hathaway.
It is unknown if Buffett was the one to make the investment or if it was one of his investment managers. Buffett is noted for being a teetotaler, someone who does not drink. Buffett has often said he doesn't drink and never has due to health reasons.
While this doesn't mean that Buffett wouldn't invest in a company that makes money from people drinking beer and wine, it could limit the likelihood that he made the investment himself or without some convincing.
Constellation Brands has the U.S. license for beers like Modelo, Corona, and Pacifico and also has wine brands like Robert Mondavi, Kim Crawford, and Meiomi in its portfolio. Modelo is the number one beer in the United States, and Modelo and Corona rank among the top five imported beers in the United States annually.

Why It's Important: Buffett is known for investing in value stocks that may be beaten down by Wall Street and in companies that have products loved and consumed by many people.
Modelo became the number one beer in the United States in 2023, and Constellation Brands benefitted from strong brand loyalty from beer drinkers.
Constellation Brands stock has taken a hit in recent months due to fears of President Donald Trump&#8216;s possible tariffs on Mexican imports. The stock is down 28% since <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/news/global/24/11/42220682/trump-tariffs-on-mexico-could-affect-beer-why-your-modelo-corona-could-cost-more-next-year" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Benzinga's November article </a>highlighted it as a potential loser in Trump's tariffs on Mexico.
Constellation imports beers manufactured in Mexico by partner Grupo Modelo, which is owned by Anheuser-Busch InBev (NYSE:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/BUD#NYSE">BUD</a>). Tariffs could increase the cost of goods for Constellation Brands and force the company to choose between raising consumer rates or taking lower profits.
With the stock down significantly, Buffett could be practicing one of his most famous investing quotes of all time.
"Be fearful when others are greedy and greedy when others are fearful," Buffett once said.
The famous quote was picked as the favorite <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/general/education/24/10/41418702/warren-buffetts-words-of-wisdom-benzinga-readers-pick-their-favorite-oracle-of-omaha-quote">of Benzinga readers</a> in a previous poll.
With fears of Trump tariffs on Mexican goods, the stock has fallen out of favor. It is down 23.5% year-to-date in 2025 and down 30.5% over the last year. Buffett or his team could have made the purchases for numerous reasons, including a strong brand or the stock falling too far on the fears.
Buffett and his team are likely being "greedy when others are fearful" here, and time will tell if the tariffs on Mexican goods are enacted and end up hurting Constellation Brands.
For Berkshire Hathaway, the investment could be a small one made over the short term or could build a new favorite investment if more shares are added to the position in subsequent quarters.
STZ Price Action: Constellation Brands stock is up 4.6% to $170.37 on Tuesday as investors dissect the Berkshire Hathaway 13F filing from Friday.

Anheuser-Busch InBev (NYSE:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/BUD#NYSE">BUD</a>) CEO Brendan Whitworth wants to change the term used to classify U.S.-made brews like Budweiser and Bud Light – "domestic" beer –&nbsp; to a more patriotic <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/general/sports/25/02/43560232/super-bowl-lix-commercials-ai-celebs-muppets-warren-buffett-linked-brand-take-the-spotlight">"American" beer.&nbsp;&nbsp;</a>
What To Know: Whitworth, a former U.S. Marine, called on distributors and partners to change the terminology in a letter titled, "A Call For American Beers."&nbsp;
The CEO wrote that the term "American beer" would better "capture the spirit and passion that's intrinsic to the American beer industry," according to a CNN <a href="https://www.cnn.com/2025/02/05/food/ab-domestic-american-beer/index.html">report</a>.&nbsp;&nbsp;
"The pride we take in this great country should also be properly and accurately applied to our great American beers," Whitworth wrote.&nbsp;
"They are brewed by American workers who receive American wages. They rely on American farmers and on American raw material suppliers. They support American causes like the military and first responders. They pay American taxes," the CEO added.&nbsp;

Whitworth's letter comes as part of a broader patriotic trend, including President Donald Trump&#8216;s recent executive order renaming the Gulf of Mexico to the Gulf of America. The Anheuser Busch CEO's emphasis on &#8220;American&#8221; and patriotic pride aligns with this current political climate. 
Strong patriotism may also appeal to a segment of Anheuser-Busch's consumer group that tends to lean toward conservative political and social views. The company received massive backlash and boycotts in 2023<a href="https://www.benzinga.com/personal-finance/24/12/42293874/corporate-america-got-lost-with-idiot-management-and-inability-to-read-the-room-says-kevin-oleary-citing-target-and-anheuser-busch"> resulting from</a> a Bud Light promotion that featured transgender influencer, Dylan Mulvaney.&nbsp;
Bud Light sales dropped dramatically and the brand lost its 20-year status as the top-selling beer in the United States.&nbsp;
Whitworth's patriotic call for "American" beer may help the company win back some conservative consumers and return Budweiser to the king of American beers.&nbsp;
"It's about time the whole industry begins to unilaterally use one of the strongest adjectives available to us: American. Leave ‘domestic' for other less glamorous uses," Whitworth said.

What Happened: NFL media partner Fox Corporation (NASDAQ:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/FOX#NASDAQ">FOX</a>) (NASDAQ:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/FOXA#NASDAQ">FOXA</a>) has the rights to Super Bowl LIX and set its sights on charging $7 million for <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/general/sports/25/01/43324031/super-bowl-lix-commercials-hit-record-8-million-how-fox-corporation-can-win-from-nfl-championship">30-second commercial slots.</a>

Data from Statista lists Modelo as the top imported beer in the United States for 2024, with Corona ranking second on the list. Heineken and Dos Equis XX, which are imported by Heineken USA, a unit of Heineken NV (OTC:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/HEINY#OTC">HEINY</a>), rank third and fourth on the list respectively. Dos Equis is manufactured in Mexico and imported to the U.S.
Modelo is the top-selling beer in America, as <a href="https://www.usatoday.com/story/money/2024/04/06/national-beer-day-2024-history-facts-sales/73225409007/">reported </a>by USA Today. The beer<a href="https://www.benzinga.com/news/23/06/32865676/bud-light-boycott-impact-king-of-beers-owner-dethroned-as-top-selling-u-s-beer-brand"> passed Bud Light </a>for the crown in May 2023 and has maintained the market share lead. Corona Extra is the fifth bestselling beer in the U.S. according to the report, giving Constellation two of the top five bestselling beers in the U.S.

The beer company manufactures all of its beer in Mexico, as <a href="https://www.cnbc.com/2024/11/26/trump-tariff-modelo-corona-constellation-brands.html">reported </a>by CNBC. Beer made up 86% of the company's revenue for the first half of 2024.
A 25% tariff on Mexican imports could raise Constellation's cost of goods sold by around 16%, according to Wells Fargo analyst Chris Carey.
Analysts expect Constellation to raise prices to offset the impact from the tariffs.
While other companies could opt to move manufacturing to the U.S. to offset the impact of the tariffs, Constellation might be stuck. The company has to produce beer brands like Modelo and Corona where AB InBev makes them, as part of an antitrust settlement between the U.S. Department of Justice, AB InBev and Grupo Modelo.
Trump previously proposed a 5% tariff on Mexican imports with plans to raise the amount to 25%, but those tariffs were not put in place previously according to the report.
Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum suggested tariffs <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/news/global/24/11/42198583/will-trump-lead-us-into-trade-war-with-mexico-president-claudia-sheinbaum-rebukes-threats">on American goods</a> imported to Mexico in response to Trump's plan.
"One tariff will be followed by another in response, and so on until we put common companies at risk," Sheinbaum said.
Sheinbaum <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/analyst-ratings/analyst-color/24/11/42219612/usmexico-trade-tensions-escalate-as-mexican-peso-hits-august-2022-lows-why-is-auto-industry-most-at-risk">highlighted American automakers</a> in her comments.
The comments from Trump and Sheinbaum could see tensions escalate between the U.S. and Mexico and a potential trade war taking place.
Consumers would likely be the losers in such a battle and drinking beers that come from Mexico will likely cost Americans more in the coming months.
STZ Price Action: Constellation Brands stock is up 1.17% to $236.57 on Wednesday versus a 52-week trading range of $224.76 to $274.87. Constellation stock is down 3% year-to-date in 2024.
