International sales account for about 70% of its total business, including approximately 45% from emerging regions. It also owns specialty pet food maker Hill's (around one fifth of sales), which primarily sells its products through veterinarians and specialty pet retailers.

Colgate-Palmolive Company (NYSE:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/CL#NYSE">CL</a>) is broadening its footprint in the pet food industry through the purchase of Care TopCo Pty Ltd, the parent company of Prime100, an <a target="_blank" href="https://www.benzinga.com/pressreleases/25/02/b43799390/colgate-palmolive-company-announces-agreement-to-acquire-prime100" rel="noreferrer noopener">Australian fresh pet food brand</a>.
Prime100, founded in 2014 and located in Melbourne, Australia, produces both refrigerated and shelf-stable pet food, which is distributed through pet care retailers and other Australian markets.
The acquisition aligns with the company&#8217;s strategy to tap into rapidly growing markets that complement its main business areas and strengthen its position in Australia&#8217;s pet food market.
By acquiring Prime100, Colgate-Palmolive will enhance its Hill&#8217;s Pet Nutrition division, gaining access to the thriving fresh pet food segment while reinforcing its portfolio of science-based, veterinarian-approved products.
&#8220;Prime100 is a strong, veterinarian-endorsed, premium-priced brand with distinctive positioning that fits well within our long-term pet nutrition growth strategy,&#8221; said Colgate Chairman, President and CEO Noel Wallace.

&#8220;We are excited that this acquisition will add a high-growth, profitable fresh dog food asset to the Hill&#8217;s division portfolio with the opportunity to drive continued growth through expanded distribution and awareness.&#8221;
The transaction is set to be completed in the second quarter of 2025, pending regulatory approval in Australia. Colgate plans to fund the deal with a combination of debt and cash.
As of December 31, the company held $1.09 billion in cash and <a target="_blank" href="https://www.benzinga.com/25/01/43385529/colgate-palmolive-posts-mixed-q4-gloomy-outlook" rel="noreferrer noopener">equivalents</a>.&nbsp;The acquisition is not expected to significantly affect its diluted earnings per share in 2025.
Price Action: CL shares closed higher by 0.41% at $86.39 on Tuesday.

Colgate-Palmolive Company (NYSE:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/CL#NYSE">CL</a>) posted mixed results for the fourth <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/quote/CL/earnings">quarter on Friday</a>.
The company reported a fourth-quarter sales decline of 0.12% year-on-year to $4.94 billion, missing the analyst consensus estimate of $4.98 billion. Organic sales increased by 4.3%. Total Oral, Personal, and Home Care net sales decreased by 0.8% to $3.80 billion. Adjusted EPS of 91 cents beat the consensus estimate of 89 cents.
"This was our sixth consecutive year with organic sales growth at or above our 3% to 5% targeted range. The combination of strong sales growth and operating leverage drove strong bottom-line performance as well, with net income and earnings per share both increasing double digits versus 2023," said Chairman, President, and CEO Noel Wallace.
Colgate said it expects FY25 net sales to be roughly flat, including a mid-single-digit negative impact from foreign exchange.
The company expects organic sales growth to be within its long-term targeted range of 3% to 5%, including the impact of the planned exit from private label pet nutrition in 2025.
Colgate-Palmolive shares fell 0.2% to trade at $86.57 on Monday.

Fed futures continue to reflect expectations for two rate cuts by the end of the year.
Meanwhile, personal spending posted a robust 0.7% increase in December, signaling strong consumer appetite in the final month of the year — a promising sign for corporate earnings.

Tech Stocks Rally, S&P 500 Flirts With Records, Gold Extends All-Time Highs: What's Driving Markets Friday?

Goldman Sachs analyst Bonnie Herzog reiterated a Buy rating on the shares of Colgate-Palmolive Co (NYSE:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/CL#NYSE">CL</a>) with a <a target="_blank" href="https://www.benzinga.com/quote/CL/analyst-ratings" rel="noreferrer noopener">price forecast of $106.</a>
CL reported fourth-quarter earnings per share of $0.91, surpassing expectations (compared to the GS/FactSet consensus of $0.88/$0.89).
However, fourth-quarter organic sales growth of 4.3% fell short of predictions, impacted by a 50 basis point drag from lower private label volumes in Pet Nutrition, said the analyst.
Additionally, Hill&#8217;s Pet Nutrition faced challenges in Europe, leading to a miss in segment growth.
North America&#8217;s organic sales declined by 0.7%, while Europe and APAC experienced low-to-mid single-digit growth. Latin America and Africa/Eurasia saw high single-digit increases, opined the analyst.
Weaker organic sales growth, combined with higher-than-expected inflationary pressures, contributed to lower-than-anticipated gross margins and slightly weaker operating margins.

According to the analyst, lower tax rate of 21.6% provided a $0.04 EPS boost, contributing to CL&#8217;s small EPS beat for the quarter.
Management has provided its initial FY25 guidance, which largely aligns with expectations, although foreign exchange headwinds are expected to impact net sales and possibly EPS for the year, per the analyst.
The analyst asserted that the company&#8217;s organic sales growth forecast of 3%—5% is consistent with its long-term target. This guidance accounts for the planned exit from private label pet nutrition in 2025, which is expected to have a larger impact than in the fourth quarter.
Overall, the analyst expects the stock to see modest declines due to weaker-than-expected organic sales growth.
The analyst considers CL one of the top-tier companies in the HPC coverage, consistently outperforming and raising its FY24 outlook, even amidst challenging market conditions.
After three years of strong growth, the analyst anticipates a more balanced environment in FY25 with slower price growth and improved volume/mix trends.
However, foreign exchange remains a potential risk, likely impacting gross margins and dollar EPS growth. Looking ahead, the analyst expects the company to maintain healthy revenue growth driven by favorable market trends and market share expansion, benefiting from household penetration and premiumization.

Colgate-Palmolive shares are trading lower after the company reported mixed Q4 financial results.

Colgate-Palmolive Company (NYSE:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/CL#NYSE">CL</a>) shares are trading lower after the consumer giant reported a fourth-quarter sales decline of 0.12% year-on-year to $4.94 billion, missing the analyst <a target="_blank" href="https://www.benzinga.com/pressreleases/25/01/b43380871/colgate-announces-4th-quarter-and-full-year-2024-results" rel="noreferrer noopener">consensus estimate of $4.98 billion</a>.
Organic sales increased by 4.3%. Total Oral, Personal, and Home Care net sales decreased by 0.8% to $3.80 billion. Adjusted EPS of $0.91 <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/earnings" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">beat the consensus estimate of $0.89.</a>
Gross profit was $2.98 billion, while the margin expanded 70 basis points to 60.3%. Selling, general and administrative expenses rose 5.1% to $1.89 billion.
Operating margin contracted 20 basis points to 21.5%, and operating income for the quarter decreased 0.75% to $1.06 billion.
The company held $1.09 billion in cash and equivalents as of December-end. Operating cash flow for the twelve months totaled $4.1 billion.
&#8220;This was our sixth consecutive year with organic sales growth at or above our 3% to 5% targeted range. The combination of strong sales growth and operating leverage drove strong bottom-line performance as well, with net income and earnings per share both increasing double digits versus 2023,&#8221; said Chairman, President, and CEO Noel Wallace.
Outlook: Colgate expects FY25 net sales to be roughly flat, including a mid-single-digit negative impact from foreign exchange.
The company expects organic sales growth to be within its long-term targeted range of 3% to 5%, including the impact of the planned exit from private label pet nutrition in 2025.
On a non-GAAP (Base Business) basis, the company expects gross profit margin expansion with advertising investment flat to up slightly on both a dollar basis and as a percent to sales and <a target="_blank" href="https://www.benzinga.com/calendars/guidance" rel="noreferrer noopener">low to mid-single-digit earnings-per-share growth.</a>
