According to the indictment, a Sinaloa Cartel-linked money laundering network collected and processed large amounts of drug proceeds in U.S. currency in Los Angeles. The proceeds were allegedly concealed and made accessible to cartel members in Mexico and elsewhere.
"Drug traffickers generate immense amounts of cash through their illicit operations. This case is a prime example of Chinese money launderers working hand in hand with drug traffickers to try to legitimize profits generated by drug activities," said Guy Ficco, IRS criminal investigation chief.

The episode started with caller Tasia, who revealed to Ramsey that she had found his page on the TikTok social media app, which gave her the push she needed to start working her way out of debt. Tasia told Ramsey that she started her emergency fund, which Ramsey and his team have been teaching people to do. According to Ramsey Solutions, a starter emergency fund should have at least $1,000 as a temporary buffer, while a fully-funded emergency fund should save at least 3-6 months of expenses.
In addition to creating an emergency fund, Tasia told Ramsey that his advice helped her avoid overdrafting any accounts. Tasia revealed that she had been overdrafting her bank accounts her whole life, so this was a significant achievement for her, and Ramsey agreed. He told her, "This is a breakthrough, isn't it, kid? Way to go."&nbsp;
When it comes to overdraft, Tasia isn't alone. U.S. Sen. Bob Casey sent a news release in April this year slamming <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/markets/equities/24/06/39513681/fed-stress-test-2024-large-banks-face-greater-losses-but-maintain-strong-capital-positions-in-se">large corporate banks</a> for profiting from excessive overdraft fees. In his statement, Casey wrote, "Roughly 23 million households pay overdraft fees each year" and that "26 percent of Americans reside in a household that faced an overdraft fee or non-sufficient fund fee in the last year." Casey revealed that American families are struggling to make ends meet, and more are going into overdraft. According to ABC News, Americans paid a whopping $9 billion in overdraft fees last year, with banks charging around $35 per transaction in overdraft. Currently, lawmakers are in the process of passing a rule to try and cut these overdraft fees.&nbsp;

Now that Tasia has managed to get herself out of overdraft, she can focus on growing her savings account. She told Ramsey that with her three jobs combined, she earns $90,000 annually and has around $30,000 still in debt, with half that amount being student loans. Ramsey told her, "You're ready to go. You're ready to try new stuff because you're sick and tired of being sick and tired." Ramsey also told Tasia that he was proud of her and then revealed his gift to her: a paid 9-week Financial Peace University class and paid access to the EveryDollar budgeting app. Ramsey explained that he's gifting her this experience because she is the reason why he does the show. He explained, "People that are like you, that have for the first time in your whole adult life, you're not doing overdraft because we taught you something," and added, "Now, we're going to teach you how to get rid of this debt." Ramsey told Tasia he would teach her how to be a millionaire.&nbsp;

Housing activist Joe Cohen detailed the affordable housing and apartments being included as part of the project to help Costco bypass a lengthy site review process by the city of Los Angeles. Cohen explained that if two-thirds of the plan includes housing, the process is expedited.
The report also noted that the apartments would come as pre-manufactured units that would be loaded off trucks to speed up the project. This may be done in an effort to avoid paying union wages for skilled on-site workers, Cohen said.
Cohen labeled the project as being similar to a prison with a bunch of small units and a recreation center in the middle.
"Why does the &#8216;Costco Prison&#8217; exist, and why is it designed the way it is? As often is the case, the answer is regulatory arbitrage," Cohen <a href="https://x.com/CohenSite/status/1800766789372215667">said</a> in a tweet that has since generated nearly three million views.
Cohen said Costco did "what any good Scooby-Doo villain would do."
"They put on a mask that says ‘I'm an apartment building, not a big-box store.'"

Why It's Important: The new store will be Costco's first in South Los Angeles and could be crucial for the company&#8217;s unit growth and store size expansion in key markets.
While Cohen's post went viral, the housing activist said he's not against the project.
"LA has a massive housing shortage and we need all the new housing we can get," Cohen said.
If the Costco project is built, it will likely serve as a test for the retailer to explore more mixed-use designs that combine retail and housing in the future. This could be particularly attractive if it helps to expedite the building process and navigate around fees and regulations.

The first presidential debate held late Thursday <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/markets/equities/24/06/39541774/heres-how-betting-odds-changed-financial-markets-fared-following-first-presidential-debate-as-bi">trimmed President Joe Biden&#8216;s odds of returning to the White House</a> for a second term. Giving his verdict on the debate, former White House Communications Director Anthony Scaramucci said it may have cost the president the election.
Loss For Biden: &#8220;That was brutal. President Biden lost the debate,&#8221; said Scaramucci in a post on X, formerly Twitter. The Democratic camp may have &#8220;switch up their strategy immediately,&#8221; he added.
While <a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hnBSJyL1FEA">speaking</a> on the &#8220;Rest Is Politics US&#8221; podcast he co-hosts with British-Swiss journalist Katty Kay, Scaramucci said, &#8220;I&#8217;m a markets guy. Obviously, if I have got something wrong, I&#8217;m man enough to admit, I have got something wrong.&#8221; 
The crypto bull and the founder of SkyBridge Capital has been throwing his weight behind Biden despite the latter&#8217;s anti-crypto stance.
Scaramucci noted that in the U.S. betting market, the odds of a Trump win have gone up to 67:33, suggesting the likelihood of him winning the Nov. 5 election has increased by five or six points.
The former White House communications director said that Trump would win if the election were held now and that Trump could go on to win on Nov. 5 unless something seismic happens to his health. Scaramucci said that, back in 2020, Biden was coherent, confident and sure of himself. On Thursday, however, the president fumbled with numbers early on and through the night, Scaramucci said. 
&#8220;President Biden got pounded,&#8221; he said, referring to the president&#8217;s performance in the debate.

Alternative Candidates: Against this backdrop, Scaramucci said he doesn&#8217;t understand why the Democrats are stuck with Biden when they could have put up Michigan Governor Gretchen Whitmer or Pennsylvania Governor Joshua Shapiro. 
&#8220;I could name five or six people that could get in here right now,&#8221; he said, while also adding U.S. Secretary of Commerce Gina Raimondo as a possible candidate.
&#8220;Any of those people are incredibly skilled politicians and they could school Donald Trump,&#8221; the financier said.
Trump&#8217;s Lies: Turning to the other side, Scaramucci said he wrote down all the lies the former president told and couldn&#8217;t keep count of them.
The former White House official agreed that Biden improved later on but said it may have been too little too late. During the debate, the public may have tuned out as they saw Biden getting overwhelmed.
Will Biden Drop Out? Scaramucci said super delegates could get Biden and his running mate Kamala Harris to drop out before the convention and announce alternative candidates. 
&#8220;There&#8217;s only one person in America that could tell Kamala Harris to step out of that ticket. I believe that&#8217;s Barack Obama,&#8221; he said. 
The vice president could be promised a Supreme Court appointment, which she turned down earlier, he added.
&#8220;I think at this point it would be good for the country for her to do and that they go with two younger people,&#8221; Scaramucci said. 
<a href="https://www.benzinga.com/general/politics/24/06/39558557/kamala-harris-defends-bidens-slow-start-at-debate-with-strong-finish-clinton-newsom-obama-race-t">California Governor Gavin Newsom</a> would have wiped the floor with Trump in the debate, Scaramucci added.
In a separate <a href="https://x.com/Scaramucci/status/1806705557157404733">interview</a> with CNBC, Scaramucci said Aug. 7 will be a big day in the state of Ohio. 
&#8220;They have to caucus and they have to nominate somebody by Aug. 7 to be on the ballot in Ohio,&#8221; he said, adding that he doesn&#8217;t see how Democrats can swap Biden with somebody else within the next 40 days. Biden has to be on the ballot in the state if he wants to win the presidency, the SkyBridge Capital founder noted.

Now <a href="https://focusfinancialpartners.com/clayton-dubilier-rice-completes-acquisition-of-focus-financial-partners/">owned by private equity firms</a> Clayton, Dubilier &amp; Rice and Stone Point Capital, it got me thinking about stocks to buy that are consolidating their industries.&nbsp;



With interest rates higher, you would think that mergers and acquisitions would slow, but there will always be acquisitive types pursuing roll-up strategies on a regional and national basis.&nbsp;



One only needs to look at the alcoholic beverages industry over the years to understand how consolidation has influenced the industry. Diageo (NYSE:<a href="https://investorplace.com/stock-quotes/deo-stock-quote/">DEO</a>) was formed in <a href="https://www.diageo.com/en/our-business/our-history">1997</a> through the merger of Grand Metropolitan and Guinness. In 2008, InBev <a href="https://www.stlpr.org/economy-business/2018-07-13/ab-inbev-merger-still-stings-10-years-later">merged</a> with Anheuser-Busch to form Anheuser-Busch InBev (NYSE:<a href="https://investorplace.com/stock-quotes/bud-stock-quote/">BUD</a>).



These are extreme examples in terms of deal size. <a href="https://www.investopedia.com/roll-up-merger-definition-4683958" target="_blank">Roll-ups</a> often involve smaller transactions over several years until economies of scale are reached.&nbsp;&nbsp;



So, who are public companies consolidating industries in 2024? Here are my three stocks to buy.&nbsp;



<h2>QXO (QXO)</h2>

(NASDAQ:<a href="https://investorplace.com/stock-quotes/qxo-stock-quote/">QXO</a>), formerly known as SilverSunTechnologies, announced that it had closed its <a href="https://www.qxo.com/news/qxo-completes-1-billion-equity-investment">$1 billion equity investment</a> previously announced in April.&nbsp;



Jacobs Private Equity put up $900 billion while co-investors including Sequoia Heritage &ndash; an affiliate of <a href="https://www.sequoiacap.com/our-history/">Sequoia Capital</a>, a leader in the venture capital industry, who&rsquo;ve invested in startups such as Airbnb (NASDAQ:<a href="https://investorplace.com/stock-quotes/abnb-stock-quote/">ABNB</a>) &ndash; chipped in the other $100 million.&nbsp;



QXO is the brandchild of Brad Jacobs, who has built several billion-dollar companies over the years, including United Waste, <a href="https://www.latimes.com/archives/la-xpm-1997-04-15-fi-49026-story.html">now part</a> <a href="https://investors.wm.com/why-invest/investor-faqs#:~:text=Then%2C%20in%201998%2C%20USA%20Waste,incorporated%20in%20Delaware%20in%201968.">of</a> Waste Management (NYSE:<a href="https://investorplace.com/stock-quotes/wm-stock-quote/">WM</a>), United Rentals (NYSE:<a href="https://investorplace.com/stock-quotes/uri-stock-quote/">URI</a>) and XPO (NYSE:<a href="https://investorplace.com/stock-quotes/xpo-stock-quote/">XPO</a>).&nbsp;



Jacobs used a combination of acquisitions and organic growth to build these industry-leading businesses. He&rsquo;s now <a href="https://www.bloomberg.com/news/articles/2024-01-03/brad-jacobs-has-plans-for-a-new-multi-billion-dollar-venture">set his sights</a> on the building products distribution industry.&nbsp;




&ldquo;QXO plans to become a tech-forward leader in the $800 billion building products distribution industry. The Company is targeting tens of billions of dollars of annual revenue in the next decade through accretive acquisitions and organic growth,&rdquo; stated QXO&rsquo;s June 6 press release.&nbsp;




In Bloomberg&rsquo;s <a href="https://www.bloomberg.com/news/articles/2024-01-03/brad-jacobs-has-plans-for-a-new-multi-billion-dollar-venture">Odd Lots podcast</a> in January, Jacobs laid out his rationale for going after a big piece of this market. He pointed out that there are 7,000 distributors in North America, and 13,000 in Europe, most of which are privately owned.



Create a public company to execute the roll-up strategy and then integrate technology into every aspect of its business, and in the process, totally modernize the building prid distribution industry, making billions for shareholders.&nbsp;



What&rsquo;s not to like?



<h2>Constellation Software (CNSWF)&nbsp;</h2>

Today, it has six operating platforms catering to virtually every industry imaginable, consisting of more than <a href="https://www.csiperseus.com/">800 companies</a> participating in over 100 vertical markets.



One of the positives of the consolidation strategy if you&rsquo;re buying right is the human capital you gain from these acquisitions. Yes, you&rsquo;re buying software assets and intellectual property, but you&rsquo;re also acquiring the talented people that built those assets.&nbsp;



The Economist wrote about Constellation last November, calling it the <a href="https://www.parsintl.com/eprints/121081.pdf">tech version</a> of Berkshire Hathaway (NYSE:<a href="https://investorplace.com/stock-quotes/brk-a-stock-quote/">BRK-A</a>)(NYSE:<a href="https://investorplace.com/stock-quotes/brk-b-stock-quote/">BRK-B</a>). I would agree with that characterization.&nbsp;




&ldquo;Like Berkshire but in contrast to private equity or VC funds, Constellation has no exit clock ticking. It can thus be patient with investment decisions. Mr Leonard&rsquo;s annual letters to investors echo Mr Buffett&rsquo;s in describing the company as a &lsquo;good perpetual owner.&rdquo;




An investment in Constellation five years ago has appreciated by 211%, 2.5x the S&amp;P 500. As a result, it has the <a href="https://www.tradingview.com/symbols/TSX-TSX/components/">11th-highest</a> market capitalization on the S&amp;P/TSX Composite Index.&nbsp;



As long as Leonard is involved, Constellation remains one of Canada&rsquo;s best investments.



<h2>Pool Corp. (POOL)&nbsp;</h2>

(NASDAQ:<a href="https://investorplace.com/stock-quotes/pool-stock-quote/">POOL</a>), the world&rsquo;s largest wholesale distributor of supplies and equipment, since before it changed its name from SCP Pool in <a href="https://investorplace.com/2020/09/7-fitness-stocks-to-buy-for-the-pandemic-and-beyond/">2006</a>.&nbsp;



&ldquo;In the five years between 2014 and 2019, Pool increased its sales by 42% to $3.2 billion and its adjusted EBITDA by 79%, to $382 million. It now generates 6% of its revenue outside North America, and that number is growing by the day,&rdquo; I wrote in September 2020.



In April, Pool and Spa News looked back on the industry consolidation that&rsquo;s taken place, and is still taking place. At the end of 2020, Pool had 398 locations worldwide. That&rsquo;s grown to <a href="https://d2ghdaxqb194v2.cloudfront.net/603/194106.pdf">442</a> as of March 31.&nbsp;



The company&rsquo;s biggest competitor, Heritage Pool Supply Group, has <a href="https://www.poolspanews.com/business/distributor-consolidation-a-look-back_o">115 locations</a> across 32 states.&nbsp;



SRS Distribution, which owns many construction-related distribution and wholesaling businesses, also owns Heritage. It, in turn, is owned by Los Angeles private equity firm Leonard Green and Partners, who acquired SRS for over $3 billion in 2018.&nbsp;



SRS launched Heritage in <a href="https://www.prosalesmagazine.com/news/srs-launches-heritage-pool-supply-group-with-acquisition-of-aqua-gon_o">August 2021</a>. Home Depot (NYSE:<a href="https://investorplace.com/stock-quotes/hd-stock-quote/">HD</a>) just acquired SRS for <a href="https://poolpromag.com/home-depot-to-acquire-srs-distribution-and-heritage/">$18.25 billion</a>, including the assumption of debt.&nbsp;



Despite Pool having Home Depot as a competitor, it continues to add approximately 10 locations annually, using a disciplined approach to acquisitions. Its 2014 operating margin was 8.4%. In 2023, it was 13.5%. It expects to continue pushing this higher in the years ahead.&nbsp;



Pool is the ultimate consolidation play.&nbsp;
