Management said that Taco Bell momentum had continued into the fourth quarter, driven in part by Cheesy Street Chalupas, the relaunch of the Cheeze-It platform and the $7 Luxe Craving Box, Charles said in a note. He raised the segment's same-store sales estimate for the quarter from 3% to 4%.
Yum! Brands guided to 4.5%-5% net restaurant development in 2024, versus consensus of 5%, attributing the lower guidance to "temporarily high closures in the Middle East impacted regions," the analyst stated. He added, however, that "net openings have been slowing across key development regions."

KeyBanc Capital Markets On Yum! Brands
<a href="https://www.benzinga.com/analyst-stock-ratings/analyst/58e64302b85e9300014c97e6/eric-gonzalez">Analyst Eric Gonzalez</a> reaffirmed a Sector Weight rating on the stock.
The company's consolidated global same-store sales declined by 2%, missing market expectations, Gonzalez said. Taco Bell recorded 4% same-store sales growth, outperforming consensus of 3.1%, while same-store sales at both KFC and Pizza Hut declined by 4% each, more steeply than expected, he added.
"For KFC and Pizza Hut, the combination of ongoing geopolitical headwinds in various markets (e.g., Middle East, Indonesia, and Malaysia), macro pressure in China, and increasing value competition in the brands&#8217; respective categories led to the SSS shortfall in the quarter," the analyst wrote. Store closures could accelerate in the fourth quarter, mainly due to tensions in the Middle East, he further stated.

Dow, Nasdaq Jump Over 1% Ahead Of Election Results: Investor Sentiment Improves, But Greed Index Remains In 'Fear' Zone

Yum China Holdings Ltd.&nbsp;(NYSE: <a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/yumc#NYSE">YUMC</a>) announced on Monday it will boost its spending on repurchasing its shares and paying dividends, as it continued to deliver solid revenue and core operating profit growth of 5% and 18%, respectively, in the third quarter despite a challenging operating environment. It said the results demonstrated the effectiveness of its strategy and ability to outperform in a challenging and fluid environment.
Yum China also said it was further raising its cash allocation for share buybacks and dividends, often referred to by companies as &ldquo;returning value to shareholders,&rdquo; to $4.5 billion over the three years from 2024 to 2026 from a previous commitment of $3 billion.
The company has already spent nearly three times as much on shareholder returns in the first nine months of this year as it did in the same period last year, including over $1 billion in share repurchases and $187 million in quarterly dividends.
Yum China has continually repurchased its shares since it was spun off from its former parent,&nbsp;Yum Brands&nbsp;(NYSE: <a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/yum#NYSE">YUM</a>) in 2016. The company has grown rapidly since Yum opened its first KFC in Beijing in 1987, and it is now the country&rsquo;s largest restaurant operator.
While share buybacks provide value to shareholder by reducing the size of a company&rsquo;s outstanding shares, Yum China said it canceled its repurchased shares, which is more beneficial to shareholder than other treatment. Yum China has bought back more than 27 million shares this year, around 7% of its total shares outstanding. That has helped its earnings per share (EPS) to grow more quickly than actual profit growth, with its EPS up 33% in this year&rsquo;s third quarter, ahead of the 22% rise in its actual net profit for the period.
Yum China&rsquo;s cumulative shareholder returns have exceeded $4 billion since it first listed in the U.S. in 2016. It picked up the pace sharply after making a second listing in Hong Kong in 2020. Yum China&rsquo;s cash position remains healthy, with net cash of $3.1 billion at the end of September. &nbsp;

<li>Bioventus Inc. (NASDAQ:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/BVS#NASDAQ">BVS</a>) was down, falling 18% to $11.19 after the company announced third-quarter results.</li>

European shares closed mostly higher today. The eurozone's STOXX 600 rose 0.06%, Germany's DAX gained 0.57% and France's CAC 40 rose 0.48%. Spain's IBEX 35 Index rose 0.29%, while London's FTSE 100 fell 0.14%.
Spain's consumer confidence indicator declined by 4.6 points to a reading of 84.8 in September.

Asian markets closed higher on Tuesday, with Japan's Nikkei 225 gaining 1.11%, Hong Kong's Hang Seng Index gaining 2.14%, China's Shanghai Composite Index gaining 2.32% and India's BSE Sensex gaining 0.88%.

Dow Jumps 400 Points; Yum! Brands Posts Downbeat Earnings

Wall Street rallied on Tuesday as improved investor sentiment aligned with millions of Americans casting their votes <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/topic/2024-election">for the 47th president.</a>
Betting markets leaned slightly toward Donald Trump, with CFTC-regulated Kalshi placing Trump's win probability at 56% compared to Kamala Harris's 44%.
National polls show a close contest, with the latest New York Times/Siena College poll indicating both candidates tied at 48% in the popular vote.
The S&amp;P 500 climbed 1.2%, while the tech-focused Nasdaq 100 surged 1.5%, marking its strongest one-day increase in nearly a month. 
All 11 sectors of the S&amp;P 500 experienced gains, with consumer discretionary stocks outperforming. Small caps also joined the rally, with the Russell 2000 index gaining 1.1%.
Palantir Technologies Inc. (NASDAQ:<a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/stock/PLTR#NASDAQ">PLTR</a>) led the S&amp;P 500, with shares soaring after the artificial intelligence company surpassed quarterly earnings estimates and provided strong guidance.
In macroeconomic news, U.S. services sector activity hit over two-year highs <a href="https://www.benzinga.com/economics/macro-economic-events/24/11/41750522/us-services-sector-gauge-rises-more-than-expected-to-over-2-year-highs-as-employm">in October, outperforming expectations</a>.
Treasury yields increased by 5 basis points, while the dollar declined for a second consecutive session.
Gold edged up 0.3%, hovering near record highs, and oil prices gained 1.2% after a 3.2% surge on Monday.
Crypto sentiment was strong as well, with Bitcoin (CRYPTO: <a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/quote/btc/usd">BTC</a>) jumping 4.5% to over $70,000 and Dogecoin (CRYPTO: <a class="ticker" href="https://www.benzinga.com/quote/doge/usd">DOGE</a>) spiking 12%.

The company reported third-quarter adjusted earnings per share of $1.37 <a target="_blank" href="https://www.benzinga.com/pressreleases/24/11/b41740795/yum-brands-reports-third-quarter-results" rel="noreferrer noopener">missing the street view of $1.41</a>.
Yum! Brands reported a 4% increase in same-store sales for Taco Bell in the U.S., and a 9% unit growth for KFC International. The company&#8217;s quarterly revenues of $1.826 billion missed the analyst consensus of $1.899 billion.
Yum! Brands saw a 5% increase in unit count during the quarter, with 1,029 gross new units added.
The company reported robust digital system sales exceeding $8 billion, with digital sales accounting for more than 50% of the total.

GAAP operating profit grew by 1%, while core operating profit increased by 3%. However, foreign currency translation negatively impacted divisional operating profit by $3 million.

The company&#8217;s KFC Division opened 685 gross new restaurants across 65 countries, Taco Bell Division opened 49 gross new restaurants across 15 countries, Pizza Hut Division opened 292 gross new restaurants across 36 countries, and Habit Burger &amp; Grill Division opened 3 gross new restaurants.
The company <a target="_blank" href="https://d18rn0p25nwr6d.cloudfront.net/CIK-0001041061/0981f0e4-7591-47ce-9f47-dd014fe97461.pdf" rel="noreferrer noopener">exited</a> the quarter with cash and equivalents worth $627 million. As of quarter-end, long-term debt totaled $11.169 billion.
In its conference call, the company said it expects fourth-quarter core operating profit growth to be in the mid-to-high single digits, excluding contribution from 53rd week and noted sales did not meet expectations in key markets of China and the Middle East, tempering expectations in the fourth quarter.
