Add Blue Chip Art To Your Portfolio With Shares Of This Multimillion-Dollar Painting

Sophisticated investors are turning to alternative investments for higher potential returns and to diversify their portfolios with assets that have little correlation with the stock market.

One type of alternative investment that is attracting increased interest is contemporary artwork. This isn’t surprising considering that this asset class is estimated to be worth $1.7 trillion and with a 14% annual return over the last 25 years, according to research conducted by Masterworks, and 23% annual returns during years of high inflation.

Investing in this type of artwork has historically been reserved for the ultra-wealthy since the highest demand pieces sell for millions of dollars.

Masterworks has created a platform where both accredited and non-accredited investors can buy shares of carefully selected pieces of iconic artwork, providing retail investors with access to this exclusive asset class.

Newest Offering: Masterworks’ latest offering is for Keith Haring’s “Untitled (1984)”. The 60-inch by 60-inch painting depicts a larger-than-life central orange head with multiple expressive faces against a blue background. It is a bright and detailed example of Keith Haring’s signature style and, as of Aug. 30, 2021, has been exhibited in five institutions.

Investment Highlights: Haring’s top works on canvas have sold in excess of $5 million at auction, including “Untitled (1986)”, which measures the same size as the current offering and recently sold for $5,779,200 in May 2021 at Sotheby’s in New York.

  • Offering Size: $3,441,000
  • Price Per Share: $20
  • Annualized Returns of Similar Works: 17.8%
  • Artist’s 2020 Auction Sales: $28,793,658

How Returns Are Realized: Masterworks will hold the painting until the company has identified the most opportune time to sell, which is typically within three to 10 years. Investors also have the option to sell any number of their shares on Masterworks’ secondary market after a minimum holding period of 12 months.

About The Artist: Keith Haring (1958-1990) learned to draw at a young age from his father, and attended the Ivy School of Professional Art and the School of Visual Arts after graduating high school.

Haring first became well known for the white chalk drawings he executed on black poster paper and pasted throughout the New York City subway system and later earned a spot on the now legendary Times Square Show, which featured 100 up-and-coming artists like Jean-Michel Basquiat, Nan Goldin and Jenny Holzer.

The artist’s market has grown significantly over the last decade but is still behind his close friends and contemporaries, Andy Warhol and Jean-Michel Basquiat, who have seen prices in excess of $100 million at auction.

How to Invest: Investors can access this offering, as well as other current artwork offerings, by registering for an account on the Masterworks platform
