US Stock Futures Up As Investors Await Macy's Earnings; Gold, Silver Futures Rise

US stock futures are higher this morning. Gold and silver futures continued to recover from the last week's losses. Futures on the Dow Jones Industrial Average gained 32 points to 12,732.00 and futures on the S&P 500 stock index rose 3.30 points to 1,357.10. Nasdaq 100 futures surged 3.50 points to 2,412.75. US stocks closed higher on Tuesday, with the Dow Jones industrial average gaining 0.60% to 12,760.36, the broader Standard & Poor's 500 index surging 0.81% to 1,357.16 and the NASDAQ composite index rising 1.01% to 2,871.89. Data on March trade balance will be released at 8:30 a.m. ET. Macy's Inc M is projected to report its Q1 EPS at $0.17 on revenue of $5.82 billion. Cisco Systems Inc CSCO is estimated to report its FQ3 earnings at $0.37 per share in revenue of $10.86 billion. Symantec Corp SYMC is estimated to report its FQ4 EPS at $0.36 on revenue of $1.60 billion. Teva Pharmaceutical Industries Ltd TEVA reported a 6.7% rise in its first-quarter net income. The company also affirmed its projections for the full year. The company's profit increased to $761 million, or $0.84 per share, versus $713 million, or $0.79 per share, in the year-ago period. The company's adjusted net rose to $1.04 per share from $0.91 per share. The company's shares outstanding dropped 2.1% to 902 million. Its sales climbed 12% to $4.08 billion. However, analysts were expecting earnings of $1.04 per share on sales of $4.28 billion. TEVA's sales in Europe increased 66% while sales in North America dropped 11%. Walt Disney Co DIS reported a 1% decline in its earnings for the second fiscal quarter. Disney's earnings came in at $942 million, or $0.49 per share, versus a year-ago profit of $953 million or $0.48 per share. Its sales climbed 6% to $9.08 billion. However, analysts were projecting earnings of $0.57 per share on revenue of $9.12 billion. McDermott International Inc MDR reported a Q1 profit at $70.4 million, or $0.30 per share, compared with $51.6 million, or $0.26 per share, in the year-ago period. Its sales surged to $899.2 million from $504.9 million. However, analysts were expecting a profit of $0.28 per share on sales of $744.8 million. Most Asian markets ended higher, with Japan's Nikkei Stock Average surging 0.46%, Australia's S&P/ASX 200 moving up 1.14% and China's Shanghai Composite declining 0.25%. Hong Kong's Hang Seng Index fell 0.19% and India's Sensex gained 0.57%. European markets were higher today. The STOXX Europe 600 Index has gained 0.59%, London's FTSE 100 Index moved up 0.14%. The US dollar dropped 0.3% to ¥80.708 versus the yen. Gold for June delivery surged $6.10 or 0.4%, to $1,523.00 an ounce on the Comex division of the New York Mercantile Exchange (NYMEX).
