Cigna Increases FY22 Guidance After Street Beating Q2 Earnings

  • Cigna Corp CI reports Q2 revenues of $45.5 billion, +5.45% Y/Y, ahead of the consensus of $44.41 billion.
  • Adjusted income from operations increased 9.6% to $1.98 billion with strong contributions from Evernorth and Cigna Healthcare.
  • Q2 adjusted EPS reached $6.22 compared with $5.24 a year ago, beating the consensus of $5.48. 
  • By the end of 2021, Cigna boasted 108.2 million pharmacy benefit customers, +6.2% Y/Y. Medical membership reached 17.81 million, up from 16.92 million a year ago.
  • At its Evernorth subsidiary, revenues were up 7% Y/Y reaching $34.86 billion, reflecting organic growth in specialty pharmacy services.
  • Revenues were up 4% at its health plan, reaching $11.34 billion. 
  • Guidance: For FY22, Cigna expects EPS of at least $22.90 (consensus of $22.72), up from prior guidance of at least $22.60.
  • It projects FY22 revenues of at least $178 billion (at least $177 billion expected earlier)
  • For FY22, the company expects total Medical Customer Growth (lives) of at least 800,000, up from the 725,000 anticipated earlier.
