THC Caps Removed From Hemp Restriction Bill

  • A Florida measure from Republican Will Robinson Jr. of Manatee County seeks to regulate hemp-derived products but will not limit the amount of THC in retail hemp products.
  • The bill's sponsor said the latest version of the legislation doesn't contain any reference to limiting the THC dosage of those hemp-derived products. "All caps are OUT, Out," Robinson said during a House committee meeting earlier this week. Before this change, hemp producers expressed concerns that the bill could put them out of business.
  • The bill still seeks to address safety issues related to products containing Delta-8 THC, more precisely, to keep them away from those under 21.

San Antonio Residents To Vote On Marijuana Decriminalization

  • In May, voters will have a chance to weigh in on a ballot proposition that would decriminalize low-level marijuana possession alongside abortion. Those opposing the policy change are getting louder by the day.
  • Adam Blanchard, a San Antonio entrepreneur and treasurer of San Antonio Safe PAC, called the proposition "100% a Trojan horse to divert attention from what it will really do to our communities."

Wisconsin Senator Promotes 'Grass Routes Tour'

  • Wisconsin Senate Minority Leader Melissa Agard, a Democrat, announced plans for "The Grass Routes Tour" to promote legalization at a meeting in a town hall in four different locations in the Badger State.
  • In addition, Wisconsin State Senate Committee on Insurance, Licensing and Forestry is scheduled to hold a public hearing on a medical marijuana bill (Senate Bill 1034) on Thursday, to which Agard earlier said that the Wisconsin residents are ready for cannabis reform.

4/20 Letter Calls On Biden To Legalize Cannabis

  • Some 85 civil rights and drug policy reform groups, led by the Drug Policy Alliance (DPA), are urging the Biden administration to deschedule cannabis and back policy reform, reported Marijuana Moment.
  • The coalition sent a letter on Thursday, 4/20, praising President Joe Biden's decision to pardon all prior federal offenses of simple marijuana possession, sign a marijuana research bill into law and request that the Health and Human Services, under Xavier Becerra, to review the status of cannabis as a Schedule I drug. However, more needs to be done, the groups say.
  • "While you have taken the bold first step toward administrative review, it remains unclear whether enough research has been conducted that will satisfy the way Health and Human Services (HHS) has traditionally applied the 8-factor analysis required," the letter said.
  • Moreover, cannabis advocates also emphasized that pardon has not considered non-citizens, who "face mandatory detention, deportation, and other immigration consequences based on minor possession convictions."
