Asia Closes In Green, Europe Trades Higher and Crude Ticks Up - Global Markets Today While US Was Sleeping

On Monday, August 28, the U.S. markets closed higher, with most sectors on the S&P 500 closing on a positive note.

The manufacturing general business activity index for Texas, as reported by the Federal Reserve Bank of Dallas, increased to -17.2 in August, surpassing the anticipated value of -21.6.

On Monday, the Dow Jones Industrial Average concluded with a 0.62% increase, reaching a closing value of 34,559.98. The S&P 500 exhibited a rise of 0.63%, ending at 4,433.31. Likewise, the Nasdaq Composite experienced a gain of 0.84%, finishing the session at 13,705.13.

Asian Markets Today 

  • Japan's Nikkei 225 closed Tuesday's session higher by 0.10% at 32,230.00, led by gains in the Machinery, Precision Instruments and Shipbuilding sectors.
  • Australia's S&P/ASX 200 was up 0.71%, ending the session at 7,210.50, led by gains in the Gold, Metals & Mining and Materials sectors.
  • China's Shanghai Composite closed the session at 3,135.89, up 1.20%, Shenzhen CSI 300 rose 1% to close at 3,790.11.
  • The Hang Seng index in Hong Kong was up 1.93%, closing at 18,471.00.

Eurozone at 06:30 AM ET

  • The Pan-European STOXX 600 index is up 0.72%. 
  • The DAX index in Germany traded 0.53% higher.
  • CAC 40 index in France rose 0.45%.
  • U.K.'s FTSE 100 traded higher by 1.58%. The FTSE 100 surged to its highest point in a span of two weeks, driven by a rise in the shares of housebuilding companies following Michael Gove's announcement of a relaxation in stringent planning regulations.

Commodities at 06:30 AM ET

  • Crude Oil WTI was trading higher by 0.74% at $80.69/bbl, and Brent was up 0.74% to $84.50/bbl.
  • Natural Gas was up 0.04% to $2.666.
  • Gold was trading higher by 0.11% at $1,948.85, Silver was up 0.27% to $24.317, and Copper rose 0.76% to $3.820.

Dow futures were up 0.02%, S&P 500 futures were up 0.05%, and Nasdaq 100 futures rose 0.02%.
