Joe Biden Gets Biggest Lead In Democratic 2024 Election Poll: Kennedy Jr, Williamson Hit New Lows

Zinger Key Points
  • A new election poll of Democratic voters shows growing support for Joe Biden.
  • Biden announced plans to run for re-election earlier this year.

President Joe Biden is seeking re-election in the 2024 presidential election, a decision he made clear with his official campaign announcement in April 2023.

While Biden could face a tough task of defeating Donald Trump in the 2024 election in a rematch of the 2020 election, he will have to win the Democratic party nomination first.

What Happened: Biden defeated Trump in the 2020 election and has served as the 46th president of the United States since January 2021.

Biden announced his campaign to run for president in the 2024 election and to date has not faced major opposition from  his party.

The two leading contenders outside of Biden for the Democratic presidential nomination are Robert F. Kennedy Jr. and Marianne Williamson.

A new poll from Morning Consult shows that Kennedy Jr. and Williamson may have peaked in their support and Biden could be the runaway favorite if no other candidates enter the race.

Here are the results of the Morning Consult poll of Democratic voters that was conducted recently (Aug 30-Sept 1), with the candidates support from the July poll in parentheses.

  • Joe Biden: 76% (71%)
  • Robert F. Kennedy Jr.: 9% (12%)
  • Marianne Williamson: 3% (4%)
  • Someone Else: 5% (5%)
  • Don’t Know: 7% (7%)

In the latest poll, Biden got his highest level of support, while his two competitors hit their lowest support in the 2023 polls since Biden announced his official campaign.

Benzinga previously shared that Kennedy Jr. was gaining support for the 2024 presidential election, but it was coming from Republican voters.

Biden’s opponents and any other candidates that enter the race could face an uphill battle against history. Since the modern primary election system was introduced in 1972, no incumbent president has seen defeat in a primary.

What’s Next: Biden continues to lead the way with Democratic voters, support that grows despite questions and concerns about his age and health.

There were previously rumors that California Gov. Gavin Newsom was eyeing a potential run for president, but he appears to have since put those rumors to rest.

Biden leads support among Democrat voters and has topped both Donald Trump and Ron DeSantis in hypothetical matchups, according to the Morning Consult's national polls. In the most recent weekly poll, Biden saw his lead over the Republican candidates grow.

Sportsbooks that offer political betting have placed Biden as the favorite to win the 2024 election for many months.

While the 2024 election is over a year away, polls continue to show that, as of now, it is likely to be a rematch of the 2020 election, with voters deciding between Biden and Trump.
